Chapter 6: "Every girl has that one guy she has a crush on forever."
The next few weeks, I got so busy with my thesis. But I still found time to drop by the hospital to see Maya. Her constant question was whether DJ and I had any 'progress' yet. And each time, she'd get disappointed with the lack of it.
It was true though. The first and last time DJ and I had a decent conversation was a couple of months ago at the tambayan inside the university. Our encounters following that were just a mere nod or exchange of smiles.
And I could understand. The finals were approaching. If I were swamped with a lot of school papers that need to be submitted soon, he probably got it worse.
Studying law is no joke. Plus, he'd been away from school for quite some time, thus, he's got a lot of catching up to do.
"Can we drop by at the cafe nearby my place? Without a cup of coffee, I don't think I will last today, girl," Amber groaned.
We were on our way to her unit to do our group project. She lives alone therefore it's quite convenient to do our work at her place.
"Why is it so crowded today?" I muttered. I thought we could hang out a bit at the cafe while waiting for the others, but unfortunately, it was crowded. So, we just placed our orders.
She shrugged her shoulders. "No idea. I-" She stopped as her eyes went past me.
She has probably spotted a hottie. Amber is quite predictable. I shook my head and didn't bother checking out who she was eyeing.
"I think I now understand," she said with a smirk. "I think you'll do the same."
"Huh?"
That got my curiosity, so I turned to see who she was eyeing. For a few vague minutes, I wasn't sure if I was just hallucinating. Is it really him? Or am I going way too crazy over him that's why I see him everywhere?
In the corner of the cafe, there was a group of people occupying the couches, and one of them was DJ.
"My gosh, girl! He's giving me the Clark Kent vibe with those eyeglasses! Ang hot grabe!"
I blinked and confirmed that DJ was really at the same cafe as I was.
"You know what, Maya is right. You're freakin' way slower than a turtle! That guy, whom you've been secretly in love with for a long time, knows you exist already. You even have his number, and yet here you are, doing nothing." She rolled her eyes.
She breathed out harshly and flipped her hair. "If it were me, I would flirt with him as soon as he knew of my existence! Every day landian sa text, call, and even on social media!"
I had already told her how I was introduced to DJ. And just like Maya. she was pushing me to go for DJ, as well.
"Ano, lalandiin ko habang nagsusunog siya ng kilay sa pag-aaral ng law? Ganon?" I breathed out. "Just look at how busy he is." There were cups of coffee and a lot of thick books on their table. I could tell that all of them were law students.
"Every girl in this cafe is ogling him. Salivating even. But does he care? Nope. He probably doesn't even notice! Sad."
She rolled her eyes. "Magpapansin ka naman kahit konti lang. Go over there and say 'hi'."
"Are you crazy? Nakakahiya! Anong iisipin niya? Papansin ako?"
She slung her arm around my shoulders. "Kunwari pupunta ka ng powder room then pretend to be surprised to see him there as you pass by their table. It's all about acting, my dear. Sige na."
