Chapter 12: "I need your love, I need your time, when everything's wrong, you make it right"

(I would never understand how you could pass up the chance to get the man of your dreams, Cassie,) Amber said, sighing. (You were there na. Not to mention, he doesn't remember his ex pa.)

I took a sip from my latter, glancing out the window while talking to Amber on the phone. I was hanging out at a cafe when Amber phoned me up.

(Didn't it ever occur to you na baka God really wants the two of you to end up together kaya nawala yung memory niya of his ex? And here you are letting the chance pass you by. Does it make sense to you?)

I just let out a chuckle which made her groan in frustration.

(Isa pa, girls avoid the man they love when they get hurt. Hindi ka naman niya sinaktan, 'di ba? He's actually very nice and sweet pa nga sa'yo.)

That's where you're mistaken, Amber. Sometimes, we also avoid the person we care about most because our love runs so deep. It's a kind of love that's both exhilarating and terrifying, knowing that deeper love also carries the weight of deeper potential pain.

And I don't think I can survive such pain if and when it happens.

My mouth curved into a small smile. "Let's not talk about him, Amber."

She let out a sigh. (When are you coming back?)

"I don't know. Maya hasn't woken up yet."

(Ano ba ang sabi ng doctor niya?)

I bit my lower lip. "He said it's all up to Maya now."

Pareho kaming natahimik ni Amber. After hanging out at the cafe, I went to the park and just walked around to clear my head.

Unfortunately, there's still no progress. Maya hasn't woken up yet.

She has obviously cried.

"What's the matter, Tita?"

She took a deep breath, seemingly holding back her tears, though she was failing miserably as her eyes were starting to tear up.

"The doctor said we should..." Her voice cracked. "H-he said we should p-prepare ourselves."

"I don't u-understand. What do you mean, Tita? Her operation was successful naman, 'di ba?"

"Until now, w-wala pa rin kasing sign na magigising si M-Maya." She covered her face with her hands and broke down.

Silently, I wrapped my arms around her, trying my best to comfort her despite my own heart breaking and my own need for comfort.

Tita wanted to stay beside Maya hence, I decided to go back home. I took a deep breath for the nth time, trying to alleviate the heavy feeling in my heart.

Before Maya had her operation, I was full of hope that she'd get better. Pero bakit ganito ang nangyayari?
