"Eddie.. Eddie, come on.. Eddie!"

Dustin Henderson sat for hours beside Eddie, trembling, his eyes scanning continuously over the wounds on his body. Tears fell down his cheeks, and every time he thought he had the courage to stand and walk away, his mind pulled him back down, forcing him to stay.

He wanted to think there was hope. Maybe, just maybe, he'd passed out. But it was clear he hadn't.
Soon, nearby, the echoing sound of heavy footsteps came closer to the two on the ground.

"Dusti-" Steve began, before he stopped in his tracks. His heart dropped to his stomach.
Nancy and Robin, who were close behind, also stopped.
Nancy covered her mouth with her hands.
Steve put his own hands in his hair, spun around with his back facing the scene and kneeled down.
Robin inched towards a distraught Dustin and sat crossed legged beside him as he buried his face in her shoulder.

"You're okay.." She felt tears prick at her eyes as she glanced at Eddies still body and fought to stay strong.

"He's not okay, though. And it's my fault, I should have..."

"No, this is not your fault." Nancy joined the two, tears streaming down her face.

"But I could have-"

"It is not your fault, you hear me?" Nancy confirmed, placing a hand on Dustin's back and helping him up.
Steve was standing now, still not facing them, though.

"S-Steve..." Dustin limped forward slightly, fearing what his best friend might think.

Steve cleared the tears from his eyes, his head spinning. Eddie and Steve had never really interacted before this whole catastrophe, but, the two had grown close. Closer than originally planned, anyway. Steve always liked to think they were friends, despite the fact that the two of them had obviously flirted before. 'it wasn't like that though', Steve had convinced himself.
He turned around slowly and wrapped his arms around Dustin.

"I tried, Steve, I wanted to bring him back to the caravan, but... He was too heavy and I tried CPR but he was just choking more and-"

"Henderson, take a deep breath." Steve said, resting his chin on the boys head.
"Nancy's right. It's not your fault."

"He's a Hero. He sacrificed his own life for all of us." He murmured into Steve's chest.

"I know, buddy."

The four stood silently around Eddies limp body, they knew he was too heavy to carry back, and what were they suppose to do with him? The town was destroyed, people were distraught.

"We can't just leave him." Dustin whispered,

"We have no choice, we have to get back.." Robin answered,

"I want to bury him properly, it isn't fair otherwise!"

"Dustin, I know you loved him, I did too, but there's no way the four of us can carry him through the gate and bury him.. And we have to find Max, Lucas and Erica." Steve explained.
Finally, Dustin realized he had no choice, and retreated, limping back towards the caravan with Steve's help. Each step was agony, and one last look at Eddies body didn't help.

Once coming back through the gate, they saw with their own eyes how damaged their town was.

They found Lucas and Erica at the hospital, Lucas was relieved to see them and fell into Dustin's arms.
"Holy shit.." Steve said as the group stood around Max's hospital bed.

"She's in a Coma.. They aren't sure if she'll pull through or not.." Lucas told them, his eyes were red and inflamed from all the tears, not to mention how hard he'd been beaten, blood cleared from his face by nurses, bruises remaining.

"Where's Eddie...?" Lucas asked, trying to make eye contact with the others, but they were all looking at the floor.
"Guys, where's Eddie..?"

"He...He didn't run away."
