"Steve, you're insane." Robin babbled on as they got closer to his desired destination.
As they approached, Dustin slapped a hand over Robins chatty mouth, seeing bats swarming in a large, dead tree.
Its branches were like fingers with long, sharp nails, pointing and sticking out in all directions, stretching meters higher then an average tree would. This tree was centered in a large open field, the forest suddenly coming to an abrupt stop which created some sort of border to the field."We're staying here, right?" Robin asked, through hands that muffled her voice.
The bats were screeching so loud it was difficult to even hear her, the trio crouched down behind a tree log and watched the event curiously. Robin furrowed her eyebrows, pointing out a strange shadow also crouched in a lower branch of the tree, but the other two shrugged it off."Its probably like.. a bat hive, or something."
"god, Steve, are you stupid?" Dustin groaned,
"What?"
"Bat hive? Bats sleep in caves. Did you learn anything in school?"
"Sorry, Asshole." Steve laughed, elbowing Dustin lightly. After a few minutes of no change, Dustin's shoulders relaxed slightly and he huffed.
"Shit." He said, the bats turning silent suddenly, the "bat hive" they saw in the tree had now disappeared.
"What's happening.." Steve muttered,
"God, Harrington if I die-" Robin began, cut off by a crackle nearby, and suddenly Dustin and her were shoved out of the way and onto the dusty ground. Something, or someone's hand grasping firmly around Steve's neck, who was slammed up against a tree. He struggled, his eyes widening as he realized what the thing resembled.
"Edd-Eddie" He croaked out, his fingers trying to claw at the persons hands that were pressing tightly on his airways.
"This body does not belong to your Eddie, any longer." The strangely pale version of Eddie mumbled, Eddies voice was taken over by Vecna's deep one and the two notes spoke together at the same time.
Steve saw in the corner of his eye, Dustin grabbing the nailed bat and holding it firmly in his hand."NO! Dustin- st-" Steve said, eyes turning bloodshot.
"Eddie- Oh shit, oh shit-" Dustin panicked, dropping the bat.
Steve gasped for breath, letting go of Eddies hand to point at a nearby tree branch. Dustin got the hint, sprinting over and grabbing it before charging at Eddie and swinging the branch at his head. The creature stumbled back, the trio getting a clear view at his current state.fists tightly clenched, shoulders heaving up and down for breath, Eddie's once sweet and soulful eyes were replaced by piercing cold red ones that showed little to no emotion. His veins that stuck out on his pale skin were visibly purple, showing through his torn up Hellfire shirt, along with his slowly healing scars that made their way up his neck and down around his waist that were covered by lowly hung black jeans.
His hair was knotted and filled with mess, but the thing that stood out the most were the slowly protruding fangs that stuck out of his slightly ajar mouth, that had obviously pierced his bottom lip by the way it was bleeding down his chin."Shit shit shit shit shit shit-" Dustin screamed, Steve catching his breath and Robin picking up the nailed bat now.
"Eddie..." Steve stepped infront of Dustin and Robin, "Its.. its your friends..."
"This body does not belong to Eddie the banished." The voices repeated, Dustin's eyes began to fill with tears now.
"Eddie! It's me, I came back! I'm here, wake up!" He said, walking towards Steve, but he put out his arm to stop Dustin from going any further.
"We don't know if he's still in there..." Steve told him, Dustin frowning and sinking backwards towards Robin.
"Eds, It's Steve. Its your Steve and your Dustin and your Robin. Please wake up, come back to us." Steve said, having to choke back his own tears now.
The creature licked his lips, glancing at his feet. For a millisecond, his eyes began to flicker between the ferocious red and a somewhat normal brown."Eddie!" Dustin grinned, seeing his friend was trying to push through.
"I can't-" The creature said, Vecna's voice losing its grip on Eddie's. The group made their way towards Eddie, his eyes continuing to flash between the two colors.
"I have your vest, I kept it!" Steve said, pointing to Robin as tears slid down his cheeks. "Robin, take the vest off." Steve ordered, grabbing it after she had, and slowly reaching forward to a disoriented Eddie with the vest in his hand. Eddie stumbled backward now, his legs giving way as his back hit the tree he once had held Steve up against.
"Shit, shit." Steve backed away slightly, the others following his movements.
Eddie seemed to be making progress, pushing the creature back within him. The once pulsing purple veins began to become slightly more invisible, his fangs becoming smaller, the red disappearing in his eyes completely.
"Eds..? Eddie Munson... that's your name." Steve whispered, kneeling down beside Eddie who was still hyperventilating.
"Mr. Perfect?" Eddie croaked, still staring forward past the three of them.
"Holy shit." Robin gaped, kneeling beside Dustin and Steve. Dustin was at loss for words, tears flooding from his eyes, cheeks flushed red.
"You're actually here. I mean you're really here, infront of me." Dustin said, behind his hands.
"You're not." Eddie replied, gritting his teeth.
"What? We're right here, beside you."
"No. No this is another one of your games, you Asshole, leave me alone." He said, tears sliding down his cheeks. He refused to look at Steve, who had his hand on Eddies arm softly.
"Eds. I'm not even kidding, I'm actually sitting here infront of you about to explode, because somehow, you're laying here, alive, infront of me." Steve smiled, eyes watering. Only then did Eddie dare to look into Steve's eyes, flinching as Steve wrapped his arms around him.
"You came back?" He sobbed into Steve's shoulder,
"Of course we came back." Dustin shoved Steve off and pulled Eddie in for a hug, Eddie's shoulders visibly relaxing, his breath more steady now.
"What the hell happened, Eds?" Steve wiped his eyes, taking Eddies hand, who peered over Dustin's shoulder, making eye contact with Steve.
"I woke up," He said, voice hoarse and unused, "When I did, I was already like.. that... I can't remember what happened before I changed into it, but I can't control it. Sometimes something triggers it and I just... turn." Eddie opened his mouth, revealing the smaller fangs.
"It's okay, we'll figure it out.." Steve reassured him,
"How are you even here, though.. Did you survive the attack from the bats?" Robin asked, glancing at the scars on his chest.
"No. I don't know... I just remember laying there with Dustin, then its just.. blurry, and.. painful." He explained, eyes squinting.
"We need to get you back to the others." Dustin shifted in the dirt slightly,
"Are you serious? Like this? I could kill somebody!" Eddie protested, wiping the blood off his chin.
"Eddie, we'll protect you, and we'll protect the others if you turn. All I know is that the others deserve to know that you're alive, and you deserve to meet them after everything that's happened to you." Steve smiled, squeezing his hand, making Eddie look down at them, both hands intertwined.
"What he said." Robin agreed.
"So like, the girl with superpowers will be there..?" He blinked, the others nodding. "Help me up then." He smiled, that was the first time he could remember smiling since bleeding out and saying his not-last goodbyes to Dustin.
