Your POV
Feeling exhausted, you pushed your chair out from your desk and stood up. Taking a moment to stretch your back, you grabbed your jacket before heading out into the town of New Orleans.
As usual, jazz music was playing just about everywhere, but you didn't mind. If anything you enjoyed it, since the music gave people a distraction so they didn't notice you.
As quiet as a mouse, you slipped past the music filled streets and made your way to Duke's Cafe to visit your friend Tiana. And as always, you made sure to steer clear of the Shadow Man's "shop," resisting your curiosity. But little did you know, he had grown curious of you as well.
???'s POV
He watched her curiously, noticing everytime how she steered clear of his "shop." He could feel the curiosity inside her, but it seemed it wasn't strong enough.
He turned towards his shadow friend. "Keep an eye on her," he ordered. The shadow nodded, knowing exactly who he was referring to.
And with his friend now gone, he entered his shop, wondering how he could convince her to be on his side.
Your POV (Again)
You took a seat, watching as Tiana carried trays over to different tables, working as hard as ever. You admired her determination, and pulled your sleeve back a bit to stare at your scars in disappointment.
How could you, the supposed "lucky one" be the one with all the issues? It just wasn't fair.
You sighed and pulled your sleeve back up, waving Charlotte and her father over when they walked in.
"Oh Y/n, did you see the news?!" Charlotte asked excitedly.
"You know I don't have the time," you responded with a small smile. Charlotte smiled back.
"Hey, I didn't expect to see you here," Tiana chimed in, walking up to your table. You shrugged.
"I'm not busy all the time," you responded, turning to Charlotte. "Now, what did the news say?"
"Oh, it was amazing! Tell 'em Big Daddy," Charlotte said as both you and Tiana looked at her curiously.
"Well, uh-" Elijah began, only to get interrupted.
"Prince Naveen of Maldonia's coming to New Orleans!" Charlotte cheered. "Tell 'em what we're doing Big Daddy," she turned to her father.
"We're going-" Once more, he was interrupted.
"We're having a masquerade ball tonight!" Charlotte exclaimed. "Tell 'em what you did Big Daddy." Elijah opened his mouth before looking at her.
"Go on," she insisted.
"Well, I-"
"He invited-" Big Daddy shoved a Beignet in her mouth. He cleared his throat before speaking.
"I invited him to stay at our estate," he finished. Charlotte swallowed the dessert in her mouth and nodded.
"Y/n, can you take the night off to come to the masquerade?" Charlotte asked, batting her eyelashes at you. You stared at her with wide eyes for a moment before taking a deep breath.
"Yeah, sure. It would be nice to not have to worry for once," you muttered the last part to yourself. Charlotte smiled and turned to Tiana.
"Tia, I'mma need about five-hundred of those man catching Beignet's of yours," Charlotte stated, grabbing a bunch of cash out of Big Daddy's wallet and shoving it into Tiana's arms.
"This should be enough, right?" She asked. Tiana stared down at the money in her arms before bringing her gaze back up to Charlotte.
"This should be plenty," she answered with a smile. "This is it. I'm finally gonna have my restaurant!" You smiled and stood up.
"Well, I'll see you two tonight," you hummed, waving them goodbye before walking out.
As you made your way home, you made the stupid mistake to look at your scars again and accidentally bumped into someone. You took a couple of steps back, shoving your sleeve back down and glancing away.
"S-sorry," you stammered. "I wasn't looking where I was going."
"That's alright Doll," a silky, seductive voice answered. You looked up to see a man taller than you. He wore what appeared to be some sort of witch doctor outfit, and he looked down at you with interest shining in his eyes. You glanced away.
"I- um, I have to get going," you stated, brushing past him. And as you walked away, you felt his eyes boring into the back of your skull.
???'s POV
Once more he watched her leave. But what was this about her going to a masquerade ball at the La Bouff estate?
He smiled. Maybe he'd have his chance then. But first, he had to deal with a certain Prince of Maldonia.
(A/N: The first real chapter is out! Again, I don't expect this to do too well but, I still hope you enjoy anyways. Bye!)
