A/N: I know it's been a while, but here we are! A super long update. I had to add another chapter to flesh out the final battle. c:

Upon seeing the small group of Iroh II, Haku, and you approach, Iroh the first laughs in a knowing tone, "I had a feeling I'd be seeing you again." His comment assures that your assumption was right. Ren did pass by these lands and stumbled upon his great uncle.

"Iroh!!" You break into a wide grin and rush over to embrace him. "You're the same as always."

"And you look ageless with your beauty." His charm has never diminished, and it makes your grin even wider. He then sets his attention onto Iroh II. "You look like a silver fox with that white streak in your hair!"

"Thanks, Uncle," your husband chuckles as he brings your daughter to the forefront. "I haven't shown you my daughter, Rin."

She waves at the rotund man, expressionlessly and quietly. It prods Iroh's curiosity as he examines her while rubbing his chin. "Oh, does this one not speak?"

You press your hand against your cheek as you explain your daughter's restriction. "Ah, I had her late in life so there were complications. Her vocal cords don't work at all, so she uses sign language to communicate."

He nods his head, "A very special trait indeed. Well, pleased to make your acquaintance, Rin!"

'Likewise, uncle.'

From behind her, Iroh II grabs Rin's shoulders to squeeze them with affection. You notice the action, and your chest squeezes with pain as the memory surfaces.

Rin's birth was a difficult experience where you almost lost her and your life. After the birth, she had to undergo many surgeries to repair her throat. Finally, when she turned four years old, she was able to leave the hospital to live her life.

Due to her lack of interaction with the world, Rin used her newfound freedom as an opportunity to explore, and she grew at an alarming rate. Her avarice in learning the world outside of the hospital siphoned all of your focus as you had to make sure she was safe in her exploration.

It didn't take long for her to catch up to the children around her. She learned the language, the social etiquette, and her penchant for fire-bending. By the age of six, she was like every child around her. Curious, immature, and excitable.

Throughout her development, neither Iroh or you were able to give your son Ren much attention. It had him desperate in finding ways to gain back a sliver of your affections. You had an easy birth with him, and no issues with his maturation. In general, he was quite the easy kid to manage until he hit his rebellious age.

A week before Ren ran away, he had an outburst during his fourteenth birthday. He yelled at Iroh in front of everyone about how his father preferred his sister over him and that he wanted to challenge her to an Agni Kai. The idea was ludicrous since Ren was not a fire bender and to challenge a sibling to a duel like that was now illegal.

Iroh vehemently refused the request and sent Ren to his room to cool off, humiliating the boy in front of family and friends. It was a terrible moment that resulted in this excursion.

But it's obvious that your husband still nurses his trauma from almost losing his daughter and wife. He showers you two with affection... but Ren does not understand that Iroh adores him just as much with him being the first child and his son. He is a mixture of himself and the woman he loves, how can he not adore Ren to such extremes?

Iroh I spots your somber face and speaks softly to return to the matter at hand. "I heard that they were first going to the library."

"The library?" Your face twists with apprehension. "I sure hope this isn't about my research notes."
