THE SWEDISH JOB

I SAT BETWEEN Five and Vanya, watching as Noah poured Five another cup of coffee. "Leave the pot." He said. Noah placed it on the table, glaring at him.

"Lippy little shit." He muttered.

"You gonna tell me what the hell is going on?" Vanya asked. I took a sip of my drink with a shrug.

How the hell do you tell someone that they ended the world without alarming them?

"When you were a baby, you were bought by an eccentric billionaire. He raised you in an elite academy with seven other siblings with extraordinary, but in the year 2019, in order to avoid the apocalypse, we jumped into a vortex and ended up being scattered throughout the timeline in Dallas, Texas." Five paused and looked at Vanya. "Any questions?"

"What do you mean, 'the apocalypse'?" She asked.

"He means the end of the world as we know it." I answered.

"Yeah, but how?"

"You really don't remember anything?" I asked.

She shook her head. "Nothing before a month ago."

"Then what do you remember?"

"I landed in, like, a... back alley. Got hit by a car. My head was ringing like crazy. I had no idea how I got there, where I came from." She paused and looked at the both of us. "What causes the apocalypse?"

I scoffed lightly. "Funny that you asked. Well it's..."

"Asteroid impact." Five interrupted. I turned to look at him, a confused expression on my face. He looked at me and I caught the hint. "The big kaboom ends everything." He said. I nodded my head, feeling guilty for lying.

"Just like the one that got the dinosaurs, except way worse. Bad news is, it followed us here." I added, sounding a little uncertain.

"What do you mean, 'followed us'?" Vanya questioned.

"Eight days from now, the world ends in a nuclear doomsday. It's a different disease but... same result." Five answered. Vanya shook her head in disbelief.

"That can't be right."

"I saw it. With my own eyes." He sighed. "You were there. We all were."

"Shit." Vanya began to stand up. "I need to make a phone call."

"Vanya." Five tried to stop her, but she already left. I sighed and slouched into my seat, taking another sip of my coffee. My stomach growled, asking to be filled. I reached my hand toward the donuts, using my powers to make my arm longer; not realizing that I had just used my powers in public.

I grabbed a doughnut and was about to take a bite out of it until I heard a crash. I looked up and saw a mug shattered on the floor as Noah stared at me in horror. My heart dropped as the blood drained from my face.
