There he was, standing in front of you. The man you had dearly loved when you were young, and who had abandoned you to train as a witcher. Basically, he had told you that his dream of getting to be a real witcher weighed more than your love, and left with barely a word to say goodbye. You knew how much it hurt; the pain of having your heart trampled on by an insensitive jerk.

And yet...

You couldn't help but have thought about him fondly for all these years. Lambert had been your first true love, the first person to truly steal your heart away. Seeing him at your doorstep still took your breath away and your heart started beating faster. That alone proved just how deep your feelings really ran.

"What are you doing here, Lambert?" you heard yourself scoffing bitterly. "After all these years, you think you have the right to come to my doorstep?"

Lambert sighed. "Can I come in? Please." He said this so softly that you almost didn't recognize his voice. You wanted to tell him to fuck off, slam the door, tell him to never come back. You really did. But instead you let him in wordlessly, allowing him into your home. He closed the door behind himself and leaned against it, looking up at you from under his red curls.

"I'm sorry," he said after a few seconds. "I'm sorry for leaving you like that."

You stared at him coldly. "You're sorry?" you repeated sarcastically. "For what exactly? For lying to me when we were young and making a fool out of myself over someone who threw me away? Is that it?"

He shook his head. "No, not that. Not that. It's... I..." His words faltered and died. "I was afraid," he admitted finally. "When that monster attacked our village, it opened my eyes. Made me realize that people can do things far worse than any beast ever could." He looked down at the floor. "And then I realized that the world needs more protectors. More witchers. So I became one."

Your heart ached as you listened to his explanation. You swallowed, staring at him. "You were so cruel to me, left me alone. You said that... I'm worth less than your responsibility to protect the world."

"People change. And I'm not who I was before. I'm sorry for what I did." he said. "I did it to protect you, protect everyone. I promised to myself that one day I'd come back to you, make it up to you for everything I had done. But I just couldn't find the courage. But now I have it. The strength to face all of my mistakes and regrets." He walked closer until he stood right next to you. Then slowly he reached out with his hand and stroked your cheek tenderly. "Can you forgive me?"

You swallowed and took in a shaky breath, and then leaned into his palm. He kissed you gently on the lips, then again, more passionately this time. You closed your eyes in pleasure and wrapped your arms around him, kissing him back. His hands were strong against your skin but soft where they caressed you. His kisses made your blood race, sending chills down your spine. All these years later, you still remembered how much you loved him.

After some minutes, he broke away from the kiss, gazing at you lovingly. "I'm so glad I came here," he said. "I missed you, and I want to be by your side for the rest of my life. I know that I've caused you so many problems and I'll do anything to make it up to you. Please say yes."

You nodded slightly, trying to hide the fact that his words filled you with happiness. "You promise you won't abandon me anymore? Not like you did when we were young?"

He smiled warmly. "I swear."

You held his gaze. "Then I accept your proposal."

He smiled, wider than ever before, and then he kissed you again, sealing you two making up. And you felt like you could fly through the clouds - you had gotten your true love back, and he wouldn't leave you again.
