---

The sun rays of the morning of your birthday illuminated your bedroom as you snored on your bed. You slept peacefully, unaware what the time was - you should have been at work already. But you had tossed and turned until late night, wondering if you should sleep at all so you wouldn't be late from work. But you had fallen to sleep eventually - and overslept.

The reason for your tossing and turning was a certain bard you had met not a long time ago at the tavern. He had shamelessly flirts at you for the whole night, wiggling eyebrows and earning frustrated grunts from his companion, who appeared to be the Witcher he had made songs about.

He had sat by the bar counter and told you jokes and just made you smile, blush and slowly fall for him. You tried to dodge it, reminding yourself that Jaskier was known as a ladies man, and despite his sweet words and long gazes, he could be looking just for one night. And it's not like you had time for such deep relationships, your work took all your time. And you needed money to live.

You had told this all to the bard, and he had just shaken his head and gestured towards the Witcher. "Adventure is out there, awaiting for you, why would you rot in a job like this?" he had asked you, and you had paused as your lips parted slightly.

It's true you had been dreaming about travelling, seeing the world beyond that village you were living in - what if all you needed was a bag of essentials and you could just hit the road? But you had always abandoned the thought, telling yourself it would be too dangerous if you didn't know how to use a sword. Bandits could be lurking behind every corner, you should always be extremely careful.

But his words still stuck with you. And last night had gone by thinking about them, as had many nights before it - were you really ready to be the host of that messy tavern for the rest of your life, in the middle of drunk people, shooing the fighters off, calling for guards for the most gruesome fights on daily basis?

You hummed in your sleep as you turned to your side, and right after that, someone was banging on your door, which caused you to jolt up with your heart immediately picking up a fast pace.

"Hey! You're late!" your boss bellowed from the door and you sighed in frustration, throwing your head back as you quickly made your way to the locker and got dressed, all the while as your boss was shouting insults behind your door, calling you lazy and many variations of it. By the time you got to the door, your boss looked like he was going to blow up as his face was so red from all the shouting. He looked like he was going to shout more at you, but you were the first to react, taking off your apron and pushing it against his chest.

"You know what? I'm done." was all you said, before you slammed the door in front of him and turned to face your home. You weren't sure why you did it, but at least you got rid of your mean and abusive boss.

You remembered Jaskier's words again, and decided to pack your bags and leave that village behind - you had nothing which would make you stay there. And as you made your way along the road, you noticed a familiar figure kicking the sand in front of you as he sat on the rock.

"Jaskier?" you furrowed your eyebrows and he slowly turned to look at you - the flirty and cheery bard was gone. He sighed at the sight of you and offered you a weak smile.

"Hello, my friend," he answered. You stared at each other for a while, before you noticed you couldn't see the Witcher around. Jaskier seemed to read your mind as he muttered, "He told me it's better if we part ways."

"Oh. I'm sorry," you said and pressed your lips together, you didn't know what else to say. So you just sat beside him, and you stared at the view together for a moment. "Beautiful, isn't it?"

Jaskier laid his gaze to the ground. "I liked to travel with Geralt, I'm going to miss this."

You turned to look at him, laying your hands over his. "Why should it be over?"

Jaskier's eyes turned to look at you questioningly. You smiled at him, and a flicker of understanding lit his eyes up. "You took my advice? And want to travel with me?"

"If it's not what-"

"No! I mean- I- I want to travel with you. I have so many places to show you," he gushed as you laughed and stood up.

"You know, it's my birthday today." You smiled as you pulled Jaskier to his feet. "And I would love to hear a birthday song."

"Oh, you do?" He smiled, and that's when you recognized him as the bard from the tavern, from how he lit up again. "Well, let me make you a song."

And so you two hit the road together, unaware what might lie ahead - but you knew that it would be an adventure.
