Chapter Fifteen

Anulika came around with her baby in her hand.
"Ije, what's the matter? You sounded so urgent" she said worriedly.

"I need to find Nedu, he left since last night and he hasn't returned since then?"

"How did he leave?"

Ije played with her fingers. "We had an argument and I said I regretted marrying him...."

"What?" Anulika widened her eyes.

"But then he burst my bubble when he said that he will never regret marrying me and he loves me.... Oh, that's true, I also said I hated him"

Anulika burst out laughing making Ije pissed. "What's so funny?"

"You are such a horrible person, Ije"

"I know I was mean but honestly, this pregnancy is driving me crazy and he's just nonchalant" she rolled her eyes.

"I thought we've talked about this now?" Anulika hissed sitting on the chair.

"You know what.... Leave all details, I need to get my husband back"

"Hm! This kin'  off and on love, me, I never see before" Anulika teased.

Nedu stormed into Paula's shop snatching the pen she was using to write from her hands. She looked up in shock.

"What the hell is your problem?"

"What did I say about my picture in your shop?"

She chuckled folding her arms under her breasts. "You said you don't want to see a picture of you... You didn't say a picture of me and you.... Is that why you weren't picking your calls?"

"Paula listen, I've had enough! You are too useless to be toiling with my marriage anyhow, with my status as well ...so I'm giving you the last warning because I swear I would have given you a square punch in the nose if not that you are a woman and I respect that... But I'm begging that you give me the respect I deserve too"

Paula grinned. "Nedu, you are a very responsible man, I like that". She smiled ruefully  "..... But let me get something into your sick skull, you can't choose a second love over the first because you know I still love you...."

"We should have moved on since" Nedu managed to say.

"Yes" Paula banged the desk. "You have moved on but I haven't.... And I'm not even asking for much, I don't need you to be my husband, I'm only asking you to allow me to have your children"

Nedu was irritated, he clenched his fist.

Paula laughed. "Can I have my pen back?"

Nedu snapped the pen into two. "You can't"

She rolled her eyes and drew another pen from her drawer. "If you aren't buying anything, you may leave, you are blocking  customers from coming in"

Nedu felt defeated and insulted and he waved a finger at her face. "I'm warning you, Paula, be careful with how you play with my life"

And he walked away.

Lotanna, Nedu's elder brother stood in front of his car pressing his phone, he looked up when he noticed angry Nedu coming out of his car.

"Nedu, what's up na? What's wrong?"

Nedu sighed taking a deep breath. "Are you going out? I want to talk to you"

Lotanna shook his head. "I just came back, what is it?"

"Let's go inside, is your wife around?"

"No, she's at work" he replied while leading the way into his house.

Nedu sat on one of the sofas. "Lotanna, I made a very big mistake by dating Paula, she wants to ruin my marriage"

"Easy, bro.... What happened?"

Nedu exhaled. "First, I picked her up at the airport, she slept in my house....."

"Jesus!" Lotanna exclaimed.

"Oh God! We literally didn't even speak to each other and then, before she left, she kissed me... Like... On the cheek and dropped some clothes for me and Ije"

Lotanna smirked. "So you still love her?"

Nedu frowned. "That's unreasonable, I'm a married man, I'm about to be a father.... This is a serious matter, Lotanna"

"Alright, I'm sorry, so what happened?"

"Ije is angry with me and I didn't sleep in the house yesterday"

Lotanna frowned. "Why?"

"Well, she said she hated me and she regretted marrying me...."

"The love of your life said this?" Lotanna burst into laughter. "And you ran away? You need to get mature, Nedu, you should have had the argument there and then..... So where did you sleep yesterday?"

"My friend's house"

Lotanna burst into further laughter. "What if she concluded that you are cheating on her...."

"Ije wouldn't do that...."

"Nedu, go home and talk things over with your wife, sometimes, things like this happens and it's very bad to sleep outside your house because of nonsense.... Me and my wife have seen worse than you and Ije, she once threw a glass cup on my head now..."

Nedu chuckled. "Seriously?"

Lotanna smiled. "There were times when she refused to cook for me or even stay near me, she even went to stay with her mother for two weeks....."

"You are a horrible husband" Nedu chuckled.

"So you see" Lotanna drawled then sprang up immediately. "Let's go and get your Ije back!"

Nedu laughed. "You are meant to say, let's get me back"

Lotanna laughed.

As they drove towards Nedu's house, with Lotanna manning the steering wheel, a call came to Nedu's phone and he stared at the caller's ID.

"It's Ije" he whispered to Lotanna.

Lotanna veered the car out of the road and parked it as Nedu picked the call.

"Hey" he said trying to sound bored.

"Nedu...." Ije started.

He took a deep breath and pressed the phone to his ear. "I'm listening"

"Listen, you need to come back, we have to talk"

Her tone was apologetic and he grinned. "I'm busy, give me some time"

"Okay" she murmured and hung up.

He checked if she had really hung up before he started laughing.

"Ment or acute malaria? " Lotanna remarked sarcastically.

Nedu turned to him still laughing. "Ije likes forming strong woman too much, I'm sure she's missing me, that's why she wants to talk"

Lotanna chuckled. "And you are laughing?, Some wives would leave everything for you to make it right.... Well... What did you tell her?"

"I told her that I'm busy but let's go now, we will stop at a restaurant, let me get some ice cream for her"

Lotanna shrugged and chuckled.
