Ije stormed past Darrell who wasn't so surprised to see her angry. She walked the road ignoring Anụlịka's car that was parked by the corner. She flagged a bike and gave the man an address while Paula stood by the gate gazing intently at her.

Anulika walked into the office. "Nedu, where's Ije?"
Nedu stopped cleaning his face "I was about to come over and apologize".
"For?" Anụlịka folded her arms with an accusing look.
"That does not matter now"
"I can't believe you hurt her" Anụlịka said angrily.
"I swear it wasn't my fault"
"I don't have your time, we need to find Ije and you are coming with me"
Nedu grabbed his suit jacket not bothering to grab his briefcase from his office because Paula was there, he followed Anụlịka immediately.
"You are with your car?" Anulika asked.
"No, I couldn't bring it"
"I could have asked why but I know it's a long story so... Don't worry..... Just get in"
"A woman can't drive me" Nedu said.
"Are you going to keep blabbing about your principles or help me to find Ije? You are such a horrible husband, I'm not joking....."
"Fine, drive... I wish someone could hear me out, I'm trying to protect her life"
"Well, she's dying soon and so will you if I don't spend the last moments with her" Anụlịka hissed at him.
Nedu remained silent.

Dumaga stared at Nedu in shock. "She caught you with Paula?"
"Before you drive into conclusions like you did the last time, I didn't kiss her, I didn't sleep with her either, she threatened me with a gun and did some silly things but we didn't kiss!"
Dumaga folded her fingers. "We have to inform the police"
Nedu clenched his fist.

Anulika and Dumaga walked into the police station with Nedu following behind.
Dumaga stopped at the counter. "Good afternoon, I'm here to report a missing lady"
The police man sized her. "Aunty, grab a foolscap and write your report, submit it and wait"
"I don't think I can wait, it's a pregnant lady... Her life is at stake...."
"If you no fit wait, go find am by yourself"
Nedu sighed. "Can I see the DPO?"
"He's with somebody, you still have to wait" the police man replied.
Anulika grabbed a foolscap and started writing her report.
"Anụlịka, just leave that thing" Dumaga complained.
"Come to think of it.... Ije had an apartment before she married me and it hasn't been rented out or sold, she could be there"
"She left all her things at my place, even her phone is in her handbag which is in my car" Anụlịka told Nedu.
"You know what.... We will go there to return her things and hopefully she will listen to me"
Anulika sighed as they left the police station.

Nedu knocked at the door for the umpteenth time. The door swung open revealing Ije who stood with a hanky. She shut the door on seeing his face.
"Ije, please hear me out"
"Get out!" She shouted.
"Ije, please in begging you... I can't do this without you... I miss you Ije"
She was silent.
Anụlịka knocked at the door. "Please open for me"
"Anuli, just let me be"
"At least collect your phone nau!" Anụlịka begged desperately.
Ije opened the door and collected her phone. "You all should leave and forget me, I'll be dead in the next two months then you can come and claim the baby"
She slammed the door shut.
"I am doomed" Nedu muttered while Anụlịka and Dumaga stared with teary eyes.

The car stopped at the daycare and Nedu killed the engine.
"Can I pick her up by myself?" Nedu asked Anulika who sat beside him sobbing.
She nodded without speaking.
Nedu exhaled deeply and walked into the daycare, he signed out for his goddaughter and carried her up while the little girl giggled. His heart was filled with warmth. If only it was his own child he was carrying....
Anulika took her daughter from him.
"I'm sorry I had to leave you for long... I was dealing with some issues" she sniffed.
The little girl grabbed her earrings with an innocent smile on her face.
Anulika chuckled kissing her forehead.
"I'll leave you guys here" Nedu said handing the car keys to Anulika.
She collected the keys from him without a word.

Nedu was drunk when he got a call from Tobe that Neche had put to bed.
"I have to go" he told Paula who was still seething with rage because he rejected her advances once more.
"That's your business" she hissed.
She had tried to poison his food severally but Nedu had not been eating anything not even the one prepared by Sinachi... He was grieving and she knew it but she would stop at nothing to get Nedu into her trap once again.

"Neche had a baby boy" Tobe announced, a victorious smile on his face.
Nedu chuckled bitterly filled with envy. "How's the mother and child?" He asked out of courtesy.
"They are alive and well" Tobe replied.
Nedu exhaled deeply, his breath reeked of alcohol. "Tobe, why is all these happening to me?"
Tobe stared at him in confusion.
"First, I lost my mother, now, I'm about to lose the woman I truly love"
"I'm so sorry Nedu for being insensitive" Tobe apologized.
"Ije, please speak to me" Nedu murmured, his eyes were filled with pain.
Ije is gone for good 😢.
So sorry, Nedu.
