JJ climbed out of her car, her gaze fixed on Nedu who stood transfixed at the spot just in front of his car.
"Chinedu special" she smiled exposing a nice set of teeth.
Her high heeled boots made her to tower above him, her purple colored lips that complimented the smoky mascara had an intimidating effect. A pure gold ring sat beautifully on her nose. She was putting on a black mini gown.
"Hello JJ" he said solemnly.
"You finally deemed it wise that we meet" she chuckled.
He said nothing.
She shrugged and led the way into the hotel that she had arranged for them to meet. They sat at a table beside a couple.
"So what would you like to drink?" JJ asked.
"I would appreciate it if you go straight to the point"
"Hmmm, straightforward as usual" she chuckled as she grabbed a wine on the table and poured into a cup, her fingers encircling it.
"It's a pity how much that Paula knows about you that she's ready to use against you"
"What do you mean?".
She took a sip of the wine savouring it's taste. "Paula is a desperate bitch, she won't rest until she gets what she wants "
"And what does she want?"
"You of course"
Nedu laughed. "Why would she want me? I mean, what does she want from me?"
JJ laughed. "Stop acting all ignorant and stuff, Paula still has her eyes on you"
"But Joelle, you know that you are the cause of all these" Nedu accused.
She raised her hand. "I know.... That's why I am here to right my wrongs"
Nedu let out a deep breath. "And how do you intend to do so?"
"By telling you what I know" she lowered her eyes to the glass then raised it and took a gulp.
Nedu was silent with an unpredictable look on his face.
"In less than two weeks, Ije will be 6 months pregnant if I'm right"
"Yes" he muttered.
"Hyperemesis gravidarum is the kind of complication that provides devastating results like stillbirth, pre birth or the death of the mother...."
"Wait.... How did you know that Ije has hyperemesis gravidarum.... That's a confidential message between us and the doctor "
"You and the doctor, you say?" JJ chuckled. "Paula has her ways, anyway, Paula is using this condition against Ije, your wife. If you mistakenly quarrel with Ije, I'm sorry but you have given Paula enough room to perfect her plans"
"Oh" Nedu murmured.
"If Ije should have the baby successfully, Paula will hurt the baby and if Ije dies in the process, she said she will care for the child only if you agree to marry her...."
"Ije will not die"
"I know.... But you have to be extremely careful Nedu " JJ stared at him.

Ije stormed into the house pushing Sinachi who wanted to help her. She bent over the guest's toilet and emptied her belly.
"Ah sorry ma"
Ije ignored her completely rushing into her bedroom where she rinsed her mouth, she ignored Nedu who lay on the bed pressing his phone.
"Welcome" he said when she came out.
"You don't have work again abi ?" She spat.
He sat up and dropped his phone.
"I've watched you.... For three days, you've been at home pressing phone all the long"
"Ije, I'm not well..."
She walked up to him. "Shut your maggot ridden mouth before I shut it for you..... Nedu, why don't you just kill me at once.... Are you that wicked and ruthless?"
Nedu's shoulders slumped. "What did I do this time?"
Ije fell to the ground sobbing.
Nedu was very tired and emotionally exhausted. He was in no mood for what Ije was displaying.
"Ije, see me, I don tire, you are supposed to know by now that it's not my doing... Whatever it is"
"My friends are teasing me about it" she sobbed.
"About what?"
"Your picture in Paula's shop. Her posts on social media, it's just like you are cheating on me"
"But you know I'm not"
"But Nedu, it is painful"
Nedu sighed deeply. "I know". He moved closer and held her close to him. "We can't lose this fight, Ije, we can't let Paula win"
She sniffed and cleaned her tears.
"Stay in the house, I'll provide you with everything you need, just to avoid gossip, okay?"
"Okay" she agreed.

Nedu went to work the next day, he had taken a one week leave to rest but considering that Ije wanted him to go out, he did.
His boss looked surprised to see him. "Mr. Nwosi, you were supposed to resume next week".
"I'm aware sir, I just came to check a few things"
"Well... That's an opportunity to tell you that the party I planned to have will take place next weekend, family members are welcome too"
"Okay sir, I'll be there"
Nedu shook hands with him before entering into his office. He bent his head on his desk and did something he had never considered to do in difficult situations.
He prayed.
