Chapter Nineteen

Neche embraced Nedu as soon as he rushed to the hospital, the bulge on her stomach was visible now, she was about four of five months gone.

"Where's my wife?"

"You've got to calm down, it's not serious, just fainting, no complications?"

"Is she hurt?" He asked.

"On her arm, looks like a scratch, nothing much"

Nedu exhaled.

"You can see her, her mother, Anulika and her husband are in her ward"

She led him to an inner ward where Ije lay, a doctor was injecting something into her drip.

"How's the baby?" He asked and the trio turned to look at him.

"Oh, my beloved son" mama stood up and hugged him tight.

"How are you, mama? Are you hurt?"

"I would have been if Anuli didn't come to our rescue"

Nedu flashed a dry smile at Anulika and her husband, Ike who stood beside her caressing her shoulders. Their daughter was on the hospital chair playing with a toy.

"Thank you" he mouthed.

Anulika broke into sobs pulling away from Ike and slumping to the chair. "What kind of temptation is this? Why can't these evil people leave her alone?" She cried.

"You needed to see how she was shouting like a possessed person" mama lamented.

Ike remained standing without a word.

"What happened mama?" Nedu asked.

Mama sighed. "I was talking with Sinachi...."

Of course you were talking. Nedu sighed.

".... She was only in her room when Sinachi wanted to give her dinner only for her to come out with her phone and she fell on the ground and started screaming, she nearly broke the mirror in your room but I caught her before that and she just slumped and fainted"

"You said she was with her phone?" Nedu asked carefully.

Mama nodded.

"Where's her phone?" The question was directed to Anulika.

"I didn't see the phone when I picked her up" she replied.

"I think I put it in my bag" mama said almost at the same time.

"Well, you would bring it out, there are some things I need to check" Nedu told her and she nodded.

Then he turned to Neche. "How is he doing?"

"She's better now" Neche replied with a sigh.

"Mama, are you with your bag here?"

"She left it in my car" Ike spoke for the first time.

"Let me get it for you" he murmured.

"We will be back" Nedu told Neche and Anulika.

The trio, mama, Ike and Nedu walked to Ike's car to retrieve Ije's phone form Mama's bag.

Mama brought out the phone and handed it to Nedu who opened the phone effortlessly as he and Ije knew each other's password.

The first message he saw was from an unknown number, he opened it and he saw a picture of him kissing Paula on the cheek.

He was shocked to the bones, it had never happened, she had kissed him instead.

The next message explained Ije's fainting.
