THE GIRL
THE BOY

the girl ✈︎

I rolled onto my side, dreading the time for when my brothers would wake me.

I shut my eyes again, pretending it wasn't 5:30 in the morning. I covered my cold body with my pink blanket with flowers, the blanket my mom had given me.

I was starting to drift off when a heavy body jumped on top of me, making me groan in annoyance.

"Five more minutes..." I yawned, flipping over on my other side so I didn't have to look at Two-Bit.

"We both know you ain't gonna wake up in five minutes, now come on!" He took the blanket off of me and carried it downstairs with him.

I cursed under my breath, deciding it wasn't that big a deal, I searched my closet for something to wear.

I ended up grabbing a black shirt and black jeans with my black converse. People say I'm boring when it comes to clothing- I don't see it.

I slipped my shoes on and hurried down to the kitchen, tripping a few times as I ran down.

Darry and Soda were both sitting down in the chairs for the table, they weren't saying anything though, it was awfully quiet.

I furrowed my eyebrows and sat down quietly, waiting patiently for my breakfast, but it seemed like Darry wouldn't be getting up anytime soon to make breakfast.

I decided I could last the day without breakfast anyways, I wasn't exactly the hungriest at the moment.

I stepped out the front door, only to be met with a frigid breeze that sent shivers down my spine.

Darry and Soda had just left for work, and they didn't say much either which didn't make much sense to me.

I walked past the bushes that crammed into the side of our house, the grass was swaying and the birds were chirping, even though I couldn't seem to find the sun that should've been sitting in the sky.

I couldn't help but let out a loud yawn, it was six thirty now and I would be awfully early to school, I usually would be late. But today is a different story.

I planned on continuing on writing the story I was making, since I hadn't come very far on it. I wiped the hair that flew into my eyes away, then finally the school came into view.

There wasn't a sign of kids talking or hanging around at the front, the kids at my school usually came later, like me.

I pushed open the school doors, the heater was on and the hot air met with my face, letting me warm up a little before strutting off to find the library.

I had plenty of time to write a few pages so I decided I'd do just that. I began to write with a stubby pencil, my lucky pencil.

Ponyboy was probably getting ready now, he always made it to school right on time, he made the perfect grades while I usually got C's and B's in all my classes.

I wanted to prove to Mr. Symes that I could write a perfect book as well as Ponyboy, Pony was Mr. Symes favorite student.

I jotted down a couple of big words since I wanted to seem educated, even though I really didn't know what any of them meant. I'd look it up in the dictionary later.

A group of Soc's pushed open the library door, they were all laughing even if it was supposed to be quiet.

"Hey grease." A taller boy stood in front of me, a cocky grin spread across his small face. "What's that you're writing?!" He snatched the notebook out of my hands, causing me to jump up and try to snatch it from him.

"Astounding, do you even know what that means?!" Another Soc spat at me, making my face turn red in anger.

"Yes I do!" I lied, grabbing the notebook right out of his hands.

"Oh yeah? What's it mean?" They laughed, even though it wasn't even funny.

"Uh... perfect?" I mumbled lowly, I've only heard the word from when Mr. Symes would clap when Ponyboy got the answer right.

"Absolutely astounding!" He would say while clapping his hands together, Ponyboy would look at his desk and not say anything while the socs in the class would look at him with disgusted looks.

Ponyboy was in all the smart classes, I wasn't and Darry hated that so much, I thought he'd beat my head in if it wasn't for Sodapop.

Soda always took up for me and Ponyboy, he wouldn't let Darry bring us down.

I snapped back into reality when I heard the socs break into fits of laughter. "No wonder you're in those 'special' classes!"

I reddened furiously, I was extremely insecure about my dumbness, I guess you could say I took after Sodapop, who was now a dropout since he needed to help with bills and because the only classes he was passing was gym and auto mechanics.

"Leave her alone." A raspy voice spat at them, I turned around to see a tired looking Ponyboy who looked as if he wanted to beat some Soc heads in.

"Aww, little brother to the rescue." A Soc smirked.

Without warning, Ponyboy jumped onto the socs back and started to punch him in the back of the head, while tugging his hair out. The Soc let out a blood curling scream-like someone had just stabbed him or something.

"Cut it out right now!" The librarian grabbed Ponyboy off of the Socs back and dropped him onto the ground.

Ponyboy started to curse the Soc out, making up words I'd never heard before. I grinned a little and Ponyboy, who looked at me with a serious look.

"You're welcome!" He snapped at me, I winked at him as a sign or thank you.

Ponyboy grabbed his books off of the floor and walked out the doors that swung shut behind him.

The socs looked at me then looked at Ponyboy who flipped them off from the window of the library. They started to run out the back doors, I laughed at them and grabbed my stuff.

Today is gonna be a good day.
