Letting go of self-restraint 5 - Great happiness in a small package

Chapter 33

Wei Wuxian suddenly stopped in the middle of his step and held A-Yuan a little closer to himself. He knew this was coming, but it still took him slightly by surprise. He breathed deeply, trying to calm both his mind and his body. His heat has come.

It was not an unusual occurrence, after all, his heats had always been extremely regular. He had no problem to immediately call upon his self-restraint, not after spending the majority of his life pretending he was a Beta and no heat could – or should – affect him. Madame Yu's discipline had been thorough and the three years since he had been released from her influence had not been enough to forget his now instinctive reaction.

Contrary to other Omegas who would succumb to their body's needs, he was doing just fine. He calmed his breathing and then his heartrate slowed down in a matter of a single second. He remembered how to do this, he knew how not to be affected by the sudden pain in his lower regions nor by the almost irresistible desire to let out his pheromones and thus call for his Alpha.

He only ever let himself relax before he had become pregnant, as after giving birth, he felt like he had to take care of A-Yuan at all times and protect him from any dangers. And how was he supposed to do that if he was moaning in bed and enjoying Lan Zhan's skilled hands and lips on his skin? He was now responsible for another life and could not relax even for a second.

Though, that was not entirely the case anymore.

"I know now that I can rely also on other people, my family and my friends, to also look after A-Yuan. I am not all alone in this fight. I have never been, but I have simply let my past take the best of me and had shut myself, Lan Zhan and our little radish in the Jingshi for way too long. It is time for a change, just as we discussed with Lan Zhan."

Wei Wuxian smiled down at his son who was already raising his small head to look at him in surprise and concern. A-Yuan had of course realized that something was not entirely alright and he was now worried for his father.

"Such a smart and sensitive child," Wei Wuxian cooed internally, "how have I deserved such treasure and so much happiness?" He still did not know to this day, but he would never ever complain about his current peaceful and happy life.

"A-Yuan, I am fine, do not worry. Would you like to spend the afternoon with Xichen-Gege and Huisang-Gege?" he asked, already knowing the reply.

"Yes, Yes," A-Yuan cheered, "Xichen-Gege and Huisang-Gege! Can we go see the rabbits again?"

Wei Wuxian laughed: "You will have to ask them."

Without further ado, Wei Wuxian headed towards the quarters of the Gusu Lan sect leader where he suspected he would find not only Lan Xichen but also Nie Huisang. He smiled to himself: "Those two had become completely inseparable this past week, I am glad for them. I now know what happiness it is to find the one person you needed in your life and I want nothing less for the both of them. Even if their second genders are not entirely compatible or their union a usual one, I believe that they will make it work, they clearly care about each other very much. Hopefully I will not distract them from anything when I will ask them to watch A-Yuan for the afternoon."

For that was the plan they had discussed with Lan Zhan and the two others just yesterday. Wei Wuxian finally heeded to their advice of also taking care of himself and they had decided that they should start with the basic needs. For his Omega nature, it made sense that they would opt for him to be pampered by his husband during his heat.

Although Wei Wuxian had agreed and was actually looking forward to the afternoon with his husband very much – he and Lan Zhan had not done anything remotely intimate aside for kissing for way too long –, there was still a seed of nervousness inside of his heart. This would be the first time when he would not just sit back with Nie Huisang's talisman in his hands but would instead be fully counting on his friend and brother-in-law to protect his baby. It was truly nerve-wracking.

However, they had also gone through this last evening during their little meeting. He and Lan Zhan would of course still be supplying the talisman with their spiritual energy and would be able to hear everything from the other side, meaning they would immediately spring into action if anything was about to happen to their son, no matter how unlikely this scenario was. After all, they had by now tried so many times to have A-Yuan being looked after by Lan Xichen and Nie Huisang, and nothing ever happened.

There were no grounds for any danger this time either, the fear was all in Wei Wuxian's head and he was slowly learning how to control it and how not to let himself be completely overwhelmed by it. They had also managed to strengthen the talisman's effects so there was no longer any possibility of it running out of range in the entirety of the Cloud Recesses. Instead of feeling an all-encompassing panic like before, Wei Wuxian was instead actively looking forward to Lan Zhan helping him through his heat. It had truly been way too long since they had gotten intimate like that and he had been missing it greatly.

Wei Wuxian stopped in front of Lan Xichen's quarters and was not even surprised when a quiet 'Wei Ying' came from behind him. Of course, Lan Zhan would know that his heat had already started and would come to pick him up. It was a great support and Wei Wuxian appreciated it very much. The last of his nervousness dissipated as if by magic. When his husband was here with him, he felt strong enough to entrust A-Yuan to Lan Xichen and Nie Huisang without any fear.

Still, he went through the now routine check that A-Yuan had the talisman safely secured to his clothes and tried that it was functioning. When he made sure that everything was fine, he knocked on the door with great resolve.

There was a short moment when sounds of frantic movements and hurried steps could be heard from the inside – were they interrupting something after all? – and then the door opened, revealing a little dishevelled looking pair of cultivators. Lan Xichen's head ornament was slight tilted to one side, so slightly it could have been overlooked if one was not deliberately searching for such a detail. And Nie Huisang's cheeks looked a shade redder than they normally were.

Wei Wuxian smiled more widely: "I cannot tell if we have really interrupted anything, but if yes, I will be happy for them. Xichen had always struck me as a person who was waiting for the only one for him. And if that person never appeared, he would have probably stayed alone his whole life. It is so great to see him smiling like this when Nie Huisang is by his side. I hope they will give us good news soon."

They did not mention anything now though and Wei Wuxian was not the one who was going to pry into other's private relationships. They would tell them when they would be ready.

Since all four of them had already talked about everything last evening, A-Yuan was passed from hands to hands with only a short greeting and a nod of acknowledgment. Both Lan Xichen and Nie Huisang had knowing expressions on their faces and they basically shooed Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan away with a short: "We will keep A-Yuan happy, so make sure to enjoy yourselves."

Wei Wuxian's cheeks flared bright red when hearing those words. Luckily, his husband was already dragging him away so no one else saw. Either way, it did not have to be said aloud, they were planning to do just what the others had suggested. Wei Wuxian finally let a part of his self-restraint fall and released his pheromones which made Lan Zhan walk faster, bordering with running through the Cloud Recesses straight towards the Jingshi.
