Kibutsuji was lying in bed staring up at the ceiling as his emotions surged. There was a lot going through his mind as he sat there rather innocently...at least, from the outside.

In truth, Kibutsuji had a knife beneath his head. It lay underneath the pillow he was lying on. It was sharp, more like a butcher knife, angled and everything, he was keeping it there for a specific purpose.

He was planning to murder someone.

His health had been deteriorating rather rapidly, his life was flashing before his eyes and he wasn't happy about it. Kibustuji feared death more than anything in the world.

Life had always been difficult for him, it had never been a gift, it had always been a prison and he had never known why. This doctor that had claimed to know it all, that was causing him and his loved one so much stress, he felt he was deceiving the both of you.

Kibutsuji noticed the treatments were not working at all. They were only wailing away his time, taking up the precious moments he had left. He hated that. He hated it more than anything and so he planned to kill the doctor.

How many more minutes would it be until he walked in...maybe five? As soon as he sat down and opened his medicinal kit Kibutsuji would launch the knife into his head. He would watch him bleed out on the floor and feel all his inner stress be relieved upon having true payback.

He didn't know how it had come to this. He didn't know when he had managed to become such a cold person, but after suffering for so long he could no longer feel the temperature of his own actions. He wasn't aware they were below freezing.

Suddenly, the doorknob was twisted. Kibutsuji laid still. The doctor had come early had he? It didn't matter. He would die five minutes earlier than Kibutsuji had anticipated, it wouldn't hinder his plans.

He prepared himself for what he was about to do as he watched the door fully open but he stopped himself in his tracks upon seeing a different person walk through the door.

His eyes widened.

"(Y/N)? What are you doing here?"

Kibutsuji watched tiredly as you silently approached him sitting down beside his lying body and smiling softly.

"At your service, my lord."

Kibutsuji scoffed, a smirk settling on his face, "Really (Y/N)?"

You ran your fingertips against his cheek before leaning in to give him a kiss.

He smiled a bit at the scent of vanilla and the softness of your hands.

That's when he remembered the doctor. He frowned. How was he supposed to kill the doctor if you were in the room?

He wouldn't be able to do it with you watching.

"Muzan."

He looked up at you, "Yes Lily?"

You bit your lip.

"You've grown even paler."
...

"It seems everyday I'm inching closer to the edge. I haven't yet lived the life I've wanted."

You sighed a bit, "I was hoping the treatment would begin working by now."

Kibutsuji felt his thoughts being confirmed.

That stupid doctor, he was making you work so hard for no good reaso-

"But at the very least," you blinked, "you've been a good person."

...

"Not quite (Y/N)."

He reminded himself about the knife that was below his head. He reminded himself of the dark intention he had set himself to commit if you hadn't of walked in the room when you did.

Why were you even here in the first place?

"(Y/N), why'd you come here? I thought you said you'd be working at the doctor's estate."

You ran your fingers through his dark hair.

"I saw a lily on the way and turned back."

You leaned in and kissed his cheek yet again and he kissed your forehead, before his hands cupped your cheeks.

You blushed.

...

"Muzan you know...what you said was wrong."

His eyebrow rose.

"You are a good person, if you weren't, I wouldn't have married you. Even if you do leave this world, I'll still be right there with you up until the very end."

You squeezed his hand and Kibutsuji felt his whole existence soften.

"I love you more than the world itself."

His body relaxed at your words, his mind clearing considerably.

Just like that, all his desires to do the inevitable went out the window. They were nowhere to be found, they were no longer in his headspace, they reduced to nothing.

As he looked at your innocent smile and demeanour, as he watched you touch his pale hand and squeeze it so tenderly all the darkness in his mind faded.

Kibutsuji decided he would no longer kill the doctor. You saw him in a brighter light then he saw himself and now, he wanted to match that standard. He made up his mind to not see through his actions.

He still didn't want to die but...even if he did die, he knew you would be there with him and so, he decided he would wait for the doctor to give him yet another dosage and hold on to the slim chance of fate that was in front of him.

He had no idea he had dodged a bullet, if you hadn't had come when you did he would've become something the likes of which he'd never imagined.

He would've no longer been human, both literally and figuratively.

But he would never come to know that.

All he knew was he was barely holding on to a string, but soon enough everything would turn out alright.
