Blue gray steel eyes narrowed as she focused her concentration. She could feel her body harden and take the full impact of the blow with less resistance than she had ever felt before.
"That was your last mistake" she growled at her attacker.
Without thought, a flame gathered in her right hand, building in intensity and circling. She approached with deliberate steps, smirking at the shocked look upon his face. She knew she had surprised him. No other Eternal had ever used two abilities when confronting their targets. This was a new development to her as well, but one she had quickly adapted to and used in her pursuits. Although her main ability was fire she had recently acquired the strength of earth to her arsenal. With some practice she was able to use the protection it provided her. Steeling herself for the attacks, it protected her from some of the damage others would try to inflict upon her. At times she felt almost invincible, but knew she should not let the skills go to her head. The man before her was a newly turned Eternal that had begun using his abilities against humans. He was weak, still learning to use his powers. Her old Master had sent her to investigate his actions, and she was there for answers.
"Who is your target?" she asked fiercely.
The man's eyes were quickly skipping from the fire building in her right hand, to the obsidian blade in her left, then quickly back to her steel gaze. He didn't know what would come first and she knew it was her advantage. Apparently the look she was sending was enough to move his tongue.
"That one." He pointed.
She sent a quick glance and spied the man he had identified. "Why?" she barked.
"He is next to turn. His abilities are told to be great."
She narrowed her eyes again. "Explain. Now!" He jumped at her demand.
"My mentor said he is to have a great healing ability once he turns. He wants him as part of his counsel. I was sent to force his turning and bring him to my mentor."
She revealed no emotion, years of battle had taught her not to give her opponent the advantage, but she was shocked. What the hell? Eternals do not force the turning of other Eternals. It could cause tremendous damage to the process and hinder the powers of the being.
"You are aware that is not how the process works? You are going against all of the rules enlisted by the Eternal code. Who is this Mentor you speak of, where is your Master?"
"I have no Master, I was taken in by one who deems himself the Mentor." Although the man had fear in his eyes La'llia could also read that he was not going to divulge where, or who, his mentor was. He stubbornly raised his chin. She felt the earth beneath her feet stir and knew he was about to attack again.
"I want names. Now. Who is your Mentor?" She lowered her voice, but still held the steel of her previous demands to him.
Her attacker briefly glanced towards his target yet again, and then smirked. "Christian may not turn today, but he will turn and when he does my Mentor will have him. His power grows with every addition. If I fall today, He will send another and He will achieve his goal."
La'llia sent him a deadly smile. "Not if, but when you fall, and this man is now under my protection. You may protect your Mentor today, but he too shall fall."
Making a mental note of the targets name, she again felt the earth beneath her feet. Little trembles that one who was not attuned to would never feel. Before her attacker could gather his ability, she let fly with her fire ball, providing enough of a distraction for him to push aside his attack. He dodged, as she had known he would do, and stepped to his right. Gathering her strength she swung her blade. She caught him square across his neck, the obsidian glinting in the suns low decent, and watched as his head rolled free from his body. She felt a slight drawing upon the earth's essence as his life left his body. So inexperienced. Why would this Mentor send someone so weak to capture what he prized so much? She gathered another fire ball and burned the body where it lay. One of the many advantages of being a Fire Eternal. Clean up was easy. The battle left her feeling unsatisfied, she liked a good fight, but today she would not receive one. She scoffed to herself as she looked down at the ash that remained of her foe.
