As evening approached, it seemed to crawl at a snail's pace. La'llia had done everything she could to ensure that Christian's return to work was as seamless at possible, and was surprised to see that everything they planned went off without any outside interference. Once she and Christian had arrived at the house she set the alarms and went about making their dinner while he cleaned up from work. She knew Alfred had called in some of his best guards and they were patrolling the perimeter of her land, but she also knew that some of the strongest elementals could simply teleport onto her land. It would weaken them, but they would succeed in gaining a closer proximity to the house. The house was equipped with the best security system that included some of the newer technology their research departments had discovered within the past few years. One of the newer discoveries was the barriers set in place to keep elementals from teleporting into the house itself. Her confidence in this newest technology was not definite and she wished that she had time to test the devices herself, but doing so would weaken her. Alfred had brought them in with him on his last trip and he had suggested that she remain in peak performance, as well as the guards they had in place. Even the weakest point in their defenses was not something she was comfortable with at this point.
The new moon would be most prevalent once the sun had set and the time was approaching. The atmosphere within the house was tense despite the effort Christian was making in keeping conversation flowing. As they ate their meal he was telling them of his day at work and how his friend Jenny would soon be leaving the area. At his revelation she glanced towards Alfred, his expression was neutral, but she knew he was the reason that Jenny had made this decision. She was happy for her friend. Finding someone after so long would be good for him, she just hoped that he would be able to explore his new found relationship. She could definitely relate to what he was going through at this moment as she wanted nothing but the same for herself and Christian as well.
While Alfred and Christian were in conversation about Jenny's move to Pennsylvania, La'llia rose from the dinner table and began clearing their plates. Although the task was relatively mundane, she lost track of their conversation as she began to think of all the things that could go terribly wrong tonight and she didn't hear that they had stopped talking behind her. When Christian slid in next to her and began to help she jumped at his presence.
"Penny for your thoughts Lia?" He asked as he smoothed a hand across her back.
She sighed and looked around, sure enough Alfred had left them alone to talk. She laughed then, she certainly could not reveal everything she had just been thinking. He would have no faith in her and she was supposed to be protecting him. "No biggie Tiger, just planning ahead is all."
"Anything I can do to help?"
"By being here near me is enough." She sighed again as she wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned into his strength.
"Lia, you know... it may be that Damien was just trying to get us all spooked. It could be that nothing is going to happen at all. I don't feel any different. Today was normal and I haven't had any unexplained draws towards any kind of water. Well, outside of the normal need for a shower..." He said as he wiggled his eyebrows.
She laughed. "You making fun of me isn't helping...much."
Just then Alfred poked his head back through the kitchen doorway. "La'llia, sunset has officially arrived. Shane and his crew have reported no suspicious behaviors around the grounds."
"Way to make it sound like I own a mansion Alfred." Christian laughed then and she could feel his body shake against her.
"Well Lia, not too many people own a house this size and sitting on almost fifty acres. I'm sure your crew is hiking their little feet off tonight."
