I wiped my tears from my face; careful not to ruin my makeup. The stall was cramped and tiny as I sat on the toilet seat; stifling my sobs.
I pulled some more toilet paper off the roll as I touched up my mascara. I haven't cried since the funeral and for some reason that stupid boy made me cry. Why was I letting what he said get to me. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
I heard the restroom door suddenly open. My body stilled as I listened. "Hey...Be." I immediately recognize the voice as JJ's. I scrunches up my face with confusion. Wasn't he in jail?
"Be, I know you're in there. I saw you pull away from Kiara and storm inside as I was walking up the beach." He explained.
I hear his footsteps approach my stall door. I look down at his shoes. Black worn out dress shoes. "Do you mind opening the door?" He asked.
I hesitated. Contemplating if I should let him see me. But my body moved faster than my brain. And before I knew, the latch to the stall door opened.
JJ stood tall. He was wearing a butler outfit similar to the waiters for the party. JJ quickly came inside the stall; shutting the door behind him.
The two of us just looked at each other. That's when I notice all the cuts and bruises on his face. "Are you crying, Be." He asked, continuing to use my nickname. I shake my head. "No." I lied. JJ gave me an "Are you serious look?"
"Your cheeks are covered with tear stains." He reaches for my face, pinching my cheeks in the process. I swat his hand away.
"Why are you here?" I asked, changing the subject. JJ's face immediately lights up like he just remembered something. "I'm on a mission. Sergeant John B request that I round up all the Pogues." He smirks.
I grow silent for a moment. "Who's John B?" I asked, cluelessly shrugging my shoulders. JJ suddenly grabs my face with his large hands pulling our faces closer to each other.
"Only one of my bestest friends of all time, baby." His eyes are playful. "And you should meet him. You are an honorary Pogue after all." He says.
"I don't really feel like meeting more people tonight. I'm about ready to stuff my face with some o' horderves and call it a night." I stand up from the toilet seat, fixing my dress in the process.
"Is this how you want to spend your summer, Phoebe." JJ asked as I push pass him, letting myself out the stall. JJ follows me out. Two girls gossiping in the corner give us a weird look as we leave the same stall.
"What are you looking at?" I snap. "Turn around." I demanded of the two girls. The both roll their eyes. "Whatever." The blonde girl mumbles before the both of them leave.
"You're gonna turn into a vampire if you stay inside all day." JJ claims. I turn the faucet on. I look up from the sink. "My parents just died, JJ. I'm not really in the mood to meet someone who was named after the singer." I teased.
JJ rolls his eyes. "I don't care what you say." He starts pulling me out of the bathroom. "You're coming with." The two of us walk out of the restroom into the dining hall.
JJ guided me through the the tables of Kooks eating dinner and chatting, until he comes to a full stop.
"What's wrong?" I asked the young teen. I follow his eyes to Rafe, Kelce, and Topper who seem to be strutting towards us fast. "We're taking a detour, Be." JJ yells, suddenly turning me back to the restrooms.
The three Kooks begin to chase after us. "Ah, shit!" JJ says, knocking over a chair in Rafe's path. We finally make it to the restrooms. "This is the men rooms-." I try to tell JJ but he cuts me off.
"Doesn't matter." He pulls on every stall door. "Um excuse me, sir." JJ says to a man who's washing his hands.
He begins to pound on another stall. "Hey, I'm taking a shit!" The person shouts from the other side.
"JJ, come on." I pull him back towards the door. JJ follows me out the bathroom, but Rafe, Topper, and Kelce block our exist.
"Hey, guys what are you doing in the locker room?" Rafe asked. A stupid smirk lays upon his lips as he watched Topper shove JJ into the wall.
"Leave us alone!" I shout, stepping in front of JJ. "Shut up!" Rafe tells me. I pull my lips into a thin line. Rafe takes a step closer.
"I mean it, Rafe." I snap. "Leave us alone." Rafe roughly grabs me by the waist pulling me into his chest. I feel him lifting my body over his shoulders.
"Put me down!" I shout. I struggle against his grip as I squirm my body. My heels fall of in the process of me kicking my feet.
Kelce pulls JJ into a chokehold. "No! Let him go! Stop!" I yell in fear of them seriously injuring JJ. "Hold him still." Topper smirks. He pretends to stand in a stance as you would when you play golf.
"What do you think? A four iron, right?" He laughs. "All right keep his head still. I'm gonna line him up!" Topper continues.
"Very Topper of you. Three against two?" JJ struggles to breath as Kelce tightens his grip around JJ's neck.
"Can you stop talking. It's very disrespectful when I'm trying to hit a ball. Learn your etiquette, my friend." Topper says.
Rafe suddenly speaks up. "Your face looks really bad." He points out the scars on JJ's face. "Starting to look like your dad a lot more." He jokes.
I begin to struggle more against Rafe's hold on my waist. "Okay! You've had your fun. Let's us go!" I shouts.
The lights start to flicker. "Gentlemen!" The officer says. "Is there a problem?" He asked, stepping into the locker room.
Rafe suddenly throws me on the ground. "Ow!" I yell out as I land roughly on my side. JJ quickly helps me up.
"Pardon me, officer. No, there's not an issue. I just-... Well actually, yes. No, there is an issue. Uh we got a criminal trespass in progress here. Beep! Call it in, right." JJ breaths as he catches his breath. "Blatant disrespect for private property. I'm in violation of all kinds of shit, sir." JJ explains. "But these young fine gentlemen..." JJ pats Kelces shoulder.
"Don't touch my shit." Kelce pulls away. "...Caught me sir, and they're about to take me away. And that's what you should do." JJ raises his wrist. "Escort me out of here." The officer pulls JJ out of the room. I follow along as JJ continues to blurt out come backs.
"You Powerpuff Girls have fun." JJ salutes. "Tell Kiara she looks pretty hot for a Pogue!" Rafe calls out.
"What the hell did you just say?" I turn on my heel. "JJ quickly pulls from the officers grip. "Keep her name out of your mouth!" I spat. "You think I'm afraid of you, bro." JJ snaps. The officer pulls JJ back towards the dining hall.
"You two young lady." The officer snaps his fingers. I nod, following the two of them out. Ah, shit! I forgot my heels!
"Look, man, I can walk myself!" JJ snaps. He bring the attention of the Kooks onto us as the officer roughly pushes him out of the party.
"It's okay, everybody. Leave it to the men and women in uniform." JJ puts his hands up in surrender.
"Phoebe!" Anna calls out. I meet her eyes. She gives me an "are you kidding me look." I shrug my shoulders. "Let go of him." Kiara shouts. "You can't just boot him!" She explains. "I invited him here. I'm a member of this club." Kiara says.
"Kiara stop, now." Anna spoke, sternly. "Hey, mandatory outing at Rixon's, Kie. You too, Be!" He points at me. "Pope you as well, all right?" JJ nods. "Rixon's Cove. Let's roll." JJ walked towards the beach.
He joins a boy who's standing a little far from the party. The two of them salute each other. "Kie, come on." JJ demands her attendance once again. "You can't keep hanging around these kids." Mike speaks to his daughter. "Phoebe, don't you dare go with her." Anna grabs my hand, but I yank it out of her grip.
"I'm sorry." Kiara whines before taking my hand and pulling me down the beach. She lets go of my hand before jumps into JJ's arms. He spins her around.
My toes hit the sand as I join the four Pogues. "Where the hell you think you're going!" Pope's dad shouts. "Sorry, dad." Pope shouts as we disappear into the dark marsh.

"Who's this?" The boy who I assumed is John B asked as we all sit around in a circle. A small fire being our only source of light. The cicadas chirping loudly in the distance.
"This is Phoebe." Kiara says, introducing me to the Pogue. "Remember when I said my cousin is coming to town?" Kiara adds.
"I thought you said she graduated high school?" John B asked. I scrunch up my face. "I did graduate high school." I verify.
John B let's out an amused laugh. "You're as tall as a middle schooler. You're like a short stack of pancakes." He jokes.
Pope nods, laughing at John B's jokes. "Right? I thought the same thing, too." He smiles. I roll my eyes. "Very funny." Sarcasm rolls off my tongue. "I might be a short stack of pancakes but I am 18. So that's makes me in charge of all of you. Anna and Mike expect me to be role model for Kie. And that's why I'm going to be." I smile proudly at myself.
"You might be older but you're not in charge of us." John B smiles. I stand up from the log I was sitting on and walk over to the tall boy.
"I'm serious. I don't want to be a bad influence on you guys." I say. John scoffs. "You influence us, please." He says. What's makes you say that?" I asked, putting my hands on my hips and tilting my head up to meet his eyes.
"My size and knowledge base actually makes me older than you. Because of your general height and lack of know how." He smirks.
"Okay, so where do we stand?" I asked. John B thinks for a moment. "I'm 22. You're like maybe 15." He stated. A boisterous laugh echoes through the cove as I hold my stomach.
"Yeah, okay. We'll see." I said, sitting back down on the empty log. "Take it away Mister Twenty-two year old."
