Millie Mukherjee, a wife and CEO and of her own company. She has everything any twenty-eight year old wishes to achieve. A loving husband who happens to be owner of another company, a caring family, successful career. But she doesn't have one thing. One thing she will give up everything to have. A child to call her own. The couple have tried again and again, but all in vain.
Being not been able to become a mother even after numerous tries, has started to take its toll on her work. In mere four months, she has fired over twelve assistants. Her husband has tried to make her take a break, but she has denied again and again. Right now, she once again finds herself interviewing to find her next assistant.
Millie's P.O.V.
"Next!" I call out for the next interviewee.
"Come in." I say hearing a feeble knock on the door.
I get surprised seeing a little girl standing by the door. A tiny redhead wearing a crème blouse and a blue skirt, both of which were obviously a little big for her size. The girl looked no older than a five year old.
"Come sit down, sweety." I just couldn't go on with her bitter tone seeing the innocent little thing.
The little girl sits down at the chair across me after a bit of a struggle.
"What is your name?" I ask.
"A-Audrey." The tiny girl replies looking at me for a second then again returning her gaze on her lap. Her voice is high and squeaky like a young child.
"And may I ask how old are you, Audrey?" I ask, giving the little girl my full attention.
"N-n-nineteen, ma'am." I watch as the girl fidgets with her skirt. The poor thing is nervous.
"Wow, you're such a big girl!" I coo, stopping myself after realising. I don't know why but my mama instincts are going off.
I see Audrey blushing. Her cheeks become rosy pink, contrasting her extremely pale skin. She has slightly chubby cheeks, like one would find in a toddler or a baby.
"Can I get a look at your resume, dear?" I hold my hand out to her.
Audrey hastily takes out her resume from her little bag pack. "I'm sorry" She apologises, handing me her resume.
I look at her emerald green eyes. The most beautiful eyes I've ever seen, having a baby like innocence in them.
"No need to apologise for, dear."
I go through her resume. To be honest with myself, she is totally under qualified for the job. With only basic education and no previous corporate experience, she will get crumpled under pressure. People really underestimate how hard an assistant's work can be.
The only two solutions I can think of right now is, I hire Audrey and let my manager do the major work. Which shouldn't be any problem as she keeps insisting me that I don't even need an assistant and she can manage the work; for which of course she will get compensated. Or, I hire two people for the job. Because I know for sure, the little thing can't handle that.
"Darling-" I begin to say looking at her resume, but when I look up at her, my heart breaks. Audrey's eyes are bloodshot red, as silent tears fall down her cheeks.
"Oh, sweetheart, what happened?" I go up to her chair and kneel down to be more on her level. I cup her cheeks with one hand, wiping her tears with the other.
"I--I'm stupid." Audrey whispers, just enough so I could hear.
"No, no, don't say that, sweetheart. You are very smart." I say, rubbing one of her tiny arms.
