AN: swearing warning
Got a long story for you guys with some Mean Girls and Heathers inspiration for this one :)

I had lived in Hawkins, Indiana all of my life. The entire community knew each other well. Summertime was always filled with talking and laughter. Kids rode their bikes around town, whether they were going to the arcade or the lake. But there was always something... off about Hawkins.

Anytime I brought this up to anyone, I was dismissed as a "nuisance", so of course I'd "think the towns weird".

Maybe it's just me solidifying my plan of running away from this happy time shit hole to something new once I graduated. I don't know if that means college or just a life on the road traveling the country, but either way I was gone after this year as long as everything went to plan.

I was in my senior year of high school, halfway through the year and almost to the home stretch. I could taste the victory on my tongue and knew freedom was close.

Until a chemical bombshell was dropped on me one day in early January.

I was sitting in the counselors office upon hearing the news, trying not to gouge the snoopy secretary's ears with a pen.

"What do you mean I'm not going to graduate?" I asked Ms. Kelly incredulously.

"Well- Sharon why don't you close my door?" She softly smiled and asked the secretary who was leaning on the door picking at her cuticles, acting oblivious to the conversation in front of her she was clearly eavesdropping in on.

"Oh! Yes, right, my apologies." Sharon finally decided to close the door, but it never latched close fully.

Ms. Kelly sighed and got up from her desk to fully close the door, "I'm sorry about that, but back to the topic at hand, I'm afraid you're not eligible to graduate at this moment. Ms. L/n you haven't done any volunteer work ever in the history of your high school career and since you have no job and have never done an extracurricular activity there's not really an excuse for you not volunteering in the board's eyes. There's unfortunately not enough time left for you to volunteer the amount of hours needed. I noticed this and wanted to talk to you early on to see if there's anything you might be interested in joining?"

I felt like a ball had just been whipped at my stomach, knocking the wind out of me. My dreams to leave this shitty town were now thrown out the window if I couldn't graduate this year.

"Anything that's open- I don't care what- I just need to graduate. Please." I said in a wind of breath.

"Alright well I know there are a few clubs around here that aren't at full capacity." Ms. Kelly paused to grab a binder from behind her desk.

"Let's see, there's art club?" She looked at me as I shook my head.

"I don't have an artistic bone in my body, honestly." I said.

"Alright," she flipped a couple pages, "oh what about the culinary club?"

"That would be great if I didn't catch my apron on fire in culinary class last year." I said looking down a little embarrassed.

"Hmm well that would be a misstep for you to join that club." She said slightly chuckling to lighten my mood.

"There aren't many other clubs open that aren't already filled to capacity... would you be interested in a spring sport? I can't guarantee you'll make the team, however." She warned.
