The switch

A/N: this was inspired by a Steve Harrington short by @suchadingus it's in their Heliophile book. I totally recommend giving it a read because it's always been one of my favorite Steve imagine books to reread. Hope you enjoy!

The cool breeze rushing through my windows felt amazing on my skin. Traveling was fun but now that it had been a summer it was finally time to go back to Hawkins.
I had just graduated in June and took a trip around the bordering states of Indiana to see some other cities.

I missed my mom and my friends and I've been excited to get back home to see them all.

I pulled up in the familiar town and made my way down my street. Once I reached my house my mother came barreling out the doors where she was watching and waiting for me.

"My baby is home!" She screamed wrapping me in a big hug as I opened my door.

"H-hey mom. Ouch! You're squeezing too hard!" I said chuckling.

"Oh shut up I haven't seen you in 4 months. I'm sure you're tired but go get showered before dinner I invited your friends over and I'm making your favorite!" She said as she began grabbing my bags from the backseat.

"You made lasagna?!" I questioned excitedly.

"Well I had to make something good for your first day back." She replied with a smile.

I quickly rushed inside to put my things in my room and get cleaned up before everyone arrived.

After my shower I got dressed and went downstairs and was once again bombarded with hugs from my two best friends.

Jess Buckley had been my best friend since kindergarten and by default, even though I loved her dearly, her younger sister Robin was grouped into our friendship.

"We're so glad you're home!" Jess screeched as we all hugged.

"I'm so glad to be back! I missed you all so much!" I yelled back hugging them tighter. 

"Alright girls dinner is ready!" My mom yelled from the kitchen.

I spent dinner telling them all about my trip and the cool cities I stopped in. They were excited to hear my stories but more happy I was back with them.

At the end of dinner I asked the two girls what their plans were for the night.

"So what are we gonna be doing? It's my first night back I know you have something planned." I said looking between the Buckley girls.

"Well we could go to Jason's party tonight but I doubt you'll actually wanna do that-" Jess started before Robin interrupted her.
"-so we got the arcade to let us have a private night there until midnight!"

"How did you manage that? Don't tell me you promised Keith a date with anyone?" I asked suspiciously.

"HA! No, never. He actually works at the video store now but the other workers were more than happy to accommodate closing to the public since it's for you, y/n." Jess replied.

"Awe really?" I asked surprised.

"Yea, they want you to erase the 'ASS' winners from a couple of the leaderboards. They know you're the best candidate for that assignment. We invited Steve and a couple of his children friends too since they all love the arcade. I hope you don't mind." Robin said quickly.
