Day one
Y/n POV:
"What did you think of the zoo, then?" I nudged Eddie. We were sat on a bench now downtown, next to a fountain in the plaza opposite the Scottish Rite Cathedral. I took a sip of my grape Slice soda: "I don't know how I feel about this soda."
"Yeah, Pepsi should stick to cola," Eddie agreed with a head tilt, "the zoo? It was fun. Really fun. Everyone was staring at me like I was one of the exhibits though." He shook his head and laughed, looking up at the cathedral. When we had driven closer to downtown, we had spotted it and decided to check it out, because the building was magical.
We poked our heads inside the door, but weren't allowed to go in because of an event that was being held. So, instead, we just sat outside of it.
"Well I think that had something to do with the observations you were making: 'elephants look like aliens'... 'why isn't their a roof so the penguins don't fly away?'... 'why are buffalo wings called that when they aren't made of buffalo?'..." I chuckled, smiling up at him.
"It turns out I'm more of an idiot than I realised," he muttered with a quiet laugh, looking down.
"You're not an idiot, you just say every wild thought on your mind. Your mouth moves slightly faster than your brain, but you figure out the answer to basically every question you have before I can reply," I took another sip of my drink and then linked my arm around his.
"I don't have a filter system. It just all spills out," he relaxed a bit now and agreed with me. It was true: Eddie could actually be pretty smart most of the time, he just said things before he really thought them over.
"I like it that way. Half the time you say what I'm thinking anyway," I admitted, squeezing his arm before shifting back to turn towards him.
"Yeah?" He sounded unconvinced.
"Yeah. What am I thinking right now?" I asked, waiting curiously for his response. Eddie's smile reappeared.
"Food," was all he said.
"Exactly. See?" I got to my feet and yanked him up.
"Where are we gonna go for food?" He looked around us to try and spot somewhere.
"Let's head this way," I chose a random direction and we started walking. Soon we could see the Soldiers & Sailors Monument, but still had no clue where we were going.
"Since it's our first evening, it has to be somewhere good- ooo, wait a second," I spotted an old couple walking down the street a few feet away and I left Eddie to quickly go over to them.
They stopped walking when they saw me coming over, and I gave a little wave and a small smile before speaking: "hi, I'm sorry to bother you. Do you live around here?" I noticed now that they were holding hands, and it was really sweet.
"Yes, sweetheart. All our lives. How can we help you?" I could tell that the lady was lovely just by the way she said the first couple of words.
"Oh, fantastic. My boyfriend and I have never been here before. We've sort of been wandering around and ended up here," I gestured around us, "do you happen to know of any good restaurants nearby?" I shifted on the spot as I waited for a reply. They looked at each other as though they were thinking about what was close to where we were.
"What about The Slippery Noodle?" The man asked the lady, and she quickly agreed.
"There's a wonderful place about ten minutes from here. My husband and I have been going there since 1963. The Slippery Noodle Inn," she patted her husband's shoulder affectionately, happy with his suggestion.
