Day nine
Y/n POV:
After spending one more night at the Red Creek Bar in northern Georgia, Eddie and I decided that it was time to carry on with our journey. However, we did keep the phone number for both Robert and Zoe so that we could stay in touch. Robert wanted Eddie to consider coming back with Corroded Coffin in the future. Zoe suggested her coming to Hawkins to visit someday. Both of those things were more than fine by us.
We carried on driving South, and ended up in Atlanta, where we spent two days exploring. We went to a botanical garden, and a couple of museums, as well as the Martin Luther King Jr National Historical Park. After the second day we drove through the evening and some of the night towards The Sunshine State, stopping to sleep in the van along the way.
Daytona Beach. That's where we were heading to. It had been named 'The World's Best Beach' back in the twenties, and in the past couple of decades it had become super infamous as a busy party place. I'd never really been anywhere like that before. And I was so excited.
But Eddie had been acting a little strangely the entire journey, almost seeming like he was in a rush to get there. He didn't want to stop at some really beautiful spots along the way, and was often quite quiet, checking his watch constantly. When I asked, he just said he wanted to get there so we could relax for a few days, and that he was fine.
We actually arrived at our destination at around 11am on the 30th of May. I was shocked to see that there was a bunch of cars parked on the actual beach, and we did the same. There were people everywhere, enjoying the sun and having lots of fun. Families. Groups of friends. I grinned at Eddie when we pulled up and he did the same back, almost appearing relieved.
It was so weird to actually see the ocean for the first time; it was so... endless. There was something surreal for me about seeing it, even though that felt a little crazy. The ocean wasn't some sort of crazy rare thing to witness, but for me it seemed to symbolise how big the world was beyond my problems.
Changing into our bathing suits, we found a nice open spot on the beach and put our towels down. Eddie insisted on being away from people, which was unusual for him recently, but I agreed. I put all my stuff down and was about to get up to go towards the ocean when I heard a voice behind me.
"Hey is this space taken?"
I recognised it instantly and spun my head around. As soon as I saw Robin I jumped to my feet and ran over to hug her. While I was doing so, I spotted the others behind her back coming towards us. Dustin, Steve, Max, Lucas, Nancy and Jonathan.
"Dustin!" I called as he started to run over to me, and I let go of Robin to embrace my little cousin. He squeezed me so tight I could hardly breathe and Robin had gone over to hug Eddie, who had gotten to his feet too by now. When the others reached us I hugged them too.
"Oh my God! What is going on? Why are you all here? How are you all here?" I was freaking out at the fact that somehow this many of our friends had magically shown up in Florida.
"Eddie's idea! He secretly called me and asked if we wanted to come and meet you for a day!" Robin shrieked excitedly, jumping on the spot. I turned to Eddie and couldn't fight my smile; he looked really proud of himself.
"That explains why you've been acting so weird!" I pointed a finger at him and he chuckled and looked down.
"Needed to get here in time..." he muttered.
"But how did you get here so fast?" I asked the others, completely confused.
"There was a direct coach from Indianapolis. We got here late last night," Steve smiled and I tilted my head at him, which he reciprocated.
