Day Fourteen

Y/n POV:

The sign that we drove back to look at told us that this drive-in movie theatre was a few miles west, which was more or less along the route we were heading anyway. It was outside of some random town, the name of which we didn't even really try to remember.

I'd never been to one of these places before. Granted, they were more popular a few decades back than they were now, but clearly there was still a market for them, especially out in the rural areas like this. There had been a pop-up one for a couple of weeks in summer back in Tennessee, but I was never taken to it.

We followed the directions, and it was easy to spot the big signs at the entrance. Darkness was creeping into the sky above us by now, and we seemed to have pretty perfect timing. There was a poster outside that told us what movie was on that night: The Shining.

"So apparently it's not showing anything new," Eddie scoffed.

"I haven't seen The Shining..." I muttered, and Eddie turned to me like I had just said something sacrilegious.

"What? How did I not know that? That's- that's not possible. How have you not seen The Shining?" He gawked at me, and I shrugged.

"I've read it," I clarified.

"Did you like it?" Eddie's eyes were wide as he stared at me. We were waiting in the line to get to entrance.

"Yeah, it's great," I conceded.

"So you liked the book, and then you knew there was a movie and you didn't watch it?" He sought clarification because he couldn't seem to understand what I was saying.

"Movies don't usually live up to the books," I shrugged, "anyway, it's not like I could've seen it in the movie theatre when it came out. I was twelve. And I never made a habit out of renting movies to sit and watch with my parents. We have one television." Eddie kept shaking his head at me.

"I can't believe my girlfriend hasn't seen The Shining. It's one of the best movies ever," he tutted.

"Well if it's one of the best movies ever then why didn't you suggest it before?" I shot back, raising an eyebrow at him.

"Because I'm a pushover and I let you pick all the movies we rent," he laughed.

"Huh... yeah you kinda do. Weird though. You aren't normally much of a pushover," I observed.

"Well I figured if I force you to listen to my music, and help me create my campaigns, and read the books I like, then I can deal with a few romcoms," he smirked at me, and I squinted my eyes back.

"I like scary movies, I was just waiting until Fall to start bringing those out."

"Not tonight," he pointed out.

"Are they even gonna let us in there? The van is huge. Isnt it gonna... block people?" I asked as we got closer to the front now. I wondered if there was some sort of rule about bigger vehicles.

"We'll get in," Eddie said nonchalantly.

"How do you know that?"

"I'll just give them some extra money and ask to be at the edge where nobody is behind us," he shrugged. That's when I saw that it did, in fact, say that the vehicle had to be a car. There was a sign.

"Like at the back?"

"Hell no. Just at the side a bit."

"It says no vans," I pointed at where it was written.
