CHAPTER TWENTY NINE

Viktor

"Vera." I said and she smiled broadly before hugging me tightly.

"Viktor!" She said before placing a kiss on my cheek. "I haven't seen you in five years." She said and I smiled.

"Did you miss me baby sis?" I asked and she laughed. "You talk just like an American." I said and she laughed even more.

"Mom will be disappointed." I said and she shook her head.

"Mom doesn't have to know." She said and I placed a kiss on her forehead.

"I missed you." She said before walking into her kitchen. "So what have you been up to?" She asked before pouring some whiskey into two glasses.

"Do you remember the Marroquín twins?" I asked while looking down and the room dawned in silence.

"Luciano?" She asked nervously and I nodded. "And his asshole of a brother Dario." She said before pushing the glass of whiskey toward me.

"They tried to kill me." I said before gulping the burning liquid down. "They tried and they failed, now we're at war." I said and she looked into my eyes.

"I hope this isn't about me." She said and I opened my mouth to talk but she stopped me.

"Luciano- they had nothing to do with what happened that night." She said before pouring herself another glass of whiskey.

"I got raped and nobody was around to save me. You weren't either. And I'm not blaming you, I couldn't even save myself. Should I start blaming myself now too?" She asked and I flared my nostrils.

"Vera-" I started in a warning tone and she shook her head at me.

"It happened for a reason. You already killed them and right now it looks like it wasn't even worth it." She said and I slammed the glass down on the table.

"It's about more than that. Trust me I would kill a thousand men for you, Vera. But there's more." I said and she frowned.

"What do you mean?" She asked and I clenched my jaw.

"There's a girl." I said and she tilted her head to the side.

"Are you saying that you're in love?" She asked and I frowned.

"In love?" I asked and she nodded.

"I don't know what that is, all I know is that she can't die." I said and Vera smiled.

"I think you're in love." She said and I rolled my eyes at her.

"I don't believe in love." I said and she frowned.

"What about me? You don't love me?" She asked and I just looked at her blankly.

"You can't do something you can't define." I said and she touched her chest.

"Ouch." She said and I chuckled lightly.

"I care about you, I care about a lot of people. But love, it does not exist." I said before pouring myself another glass of whiskey.

"You'll change your tune very soon big brother." She said before hugging me again.

"So what's your plan?" She asked and I shrugged.

"Kill them both." I said and she frowned before pulling back from me.

"You're not killing Luciano- or Dario." She said the last part slowly.

"You're not stopping me, Vera. This war ends with me killing the Marroquín twins." I said and she pushed me away from her.

"If you kill him, I'm dead to you." She said and I frowned at her.

"You don't know what you're saying." I told her and she glared at me in anger.

"You're not killing Luciano Marroquín." She yelled into my face.

"Vera listen to me, it's either me or them." I said and she shook her head. "Luciano helped Dario kill my look alike along with my men. What does that say about his feelings for you, Vera?" I asked and she shook her head.

"Luciano wouldn't do that." She said and I laughed at her.

"Well he did." I said blankly. "You still care about him after everything? I thought you- hated him."

"I love him." She said and I glared at her. "His brother is a different story." She said in disgust.

"I'm sorry but I'm killing them." I said before walking out of her kitchen.

"What about the girl?" Vera asked from behind me.

"What about her?" I asked getting angry.

"You don't wanna disappoint her." Vera said and I scoffed.

"I don't want to but I kidnapped her. Disappoinment doesn't matter anymore." I said and Vera frowned.

"What the fuck? Why would you kidnap someone?" She asked and I pinched the bridge of my nose.

"It's nothing." I said and she grabbed my arm.

"Who is she and why did you kidnap her?" She asked angrily so I scratched the skin above my eyebrow.

"You don't have to know this." I said and she glared at me.

"Tell me!" She said in frustration.

"She's dating them. Paige is their girlfriend." I said angrily.

"She's dating both of them?" Vera asked in disbelief. "How fucking greedy can one bitch-"

"Don't say anything bad about her." I stopped her and she frowned up at me. "Paige is under my protection." I said before walking away from her.

"Viktor wait!" She yelled and I stopped in my tracks. "I'll help you end this war." She said and I smiled.

"If we do this your loyalties lies with me and not with the Marroquíns. Loyalty over love." I said and she nodded.

"I won't betray you, I promise." She said and I nodded before continuing my walk to my car.

"I'll call you tonight." I said before climbing into my car.
