Murph's POV:
I woke up to the sound of my walkie talkie going awol. "MURPH DO YOU COPY?" Dustin's voice shrilled over, he'd stayed at Mike's with his friends last night. "Dusty?" I grumbled. A series of cheers erupted on the other side. "SEE! I told you guys it would work." Dustin said, I pushed the antenna down and got up feeling extremely tired.

Stood in the bathroom, I rubbed my eyes trying to escape the exhaustion. With bags under my eyes and a vein popping from my forehead, I glanced at myself in the mirror. I was never really arrogant but I did pride myself in my appearance. For as long as I could remember I'd beg my mom to braid and style my hair and take me shopping so I could mix and match outfits.

The misery on my face was evident as I grabbed a hairbrush and began tackling the obstacle that was the nest on my head. Knots, tangled my hair from roots to end as I sighed. Pulling scissors out from the bathroom cabinet, I snipped the lost hair tie I'd used to put my hair up last night and let my hair down. Then grabbing the brush, I began combing my hair.

My arms ached and I wasn't even halfway through, groaning loudly, I heard footsteps in the hallway. "Murph? You alright?" My mom asked, I contemplated lying and telling her I was fine but simply couldn't because my hair was being an absolute and complete bitch.

"No... I.. Uh, Here." I mumbled more to myself, unlocking the door and letting her in. "Oh! Wow." She said, seeing my hair in one big knot. I couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction as she pulled my desk chair into the bathroom and sat me down on it. "You're gonna need one of these." She smiled, I glanced at her through the bathroom mirror opposite me as she passed me a cigarette, slipping one in her own mouth.

"You're offering me a.... cig... What's the catch?" I teased. "There isn't one, you're going to do it regardless of whether I tell you not to. I'd rather you do it in front of my face than behind my back." She replied, I didn't know whether she was saying it in an angry way or not so I stayed quiet. She inhaled before carrying on "You're a teenager. I'm cutting you some slack here, take it. My mother never let me do a thing and look how well that turned out." She joked, I took it from her hand and lit it.

"Yeah Nana was quite the character." I responded, she snorted before adding "Indeed." I felt myself wanting to know more, not even aware of her tugging at my hair as I blew smoke down, she did the same. "What was it like.. When you met dad?" I asked curiously. I knew how they met and how they fell in love and blah blah but I wanted to know about the hardships, that interested me more.

"Well, your Nana didn't quite trust him, said he was too 'perfect' So naturally something had to be up." We laughed quietly, my face expressive as I reacted to her story. "Anyway, she and my father interrogated Nicholas. When he answered all their questions my mother was so angry! That very day she told me I had to break up with him." She explained, my eyes widened, I'd never heard this before.

"No way." I whispered as she nodded, smiling and enjoying my reaction. "I was 15 at the time so a little younger than you. I fought and fought my mother on it but she wouldn't budge and ... back then... you had to listen to your parents." I felt myself pitying her as she continued. "So, I sat your father down and I tried to break up with him."

"Tried?" I asked. She smiled, reminiscing as her eyes clouded with love, the same way they always did when she spoke about him. "He refused. He knew my parents weren't accepting and he knew I still loved him. So he took my hand and said 'lets get married' I was high on love for him so I agreed, but we knew it wasn't possible." She said, my hair was knotless as she lifted my head a little and began braiding.

"I cried to him after that, I hated crying but I loved Nick so much. The thought of not being with him.. I couldn't breathe." I felt butterflies erupt in my stomach as I pictured it, me feeling that one day. "So he knelt down in front of me, leaned his head back and screamed at the top of his lungs 'Claudia, I'm going to marry you one day!' And that was it, I believed him wholly." She shook with laughter as I felt my grin widen. "He was crazy." I joked, she nodded agreeing. "Tell me more." I pleaded, she kissed my head as a response before carrying on.
