Murph's POV:
In shock, I was still for a moment until realisation hit me. Steve was kissing me. Oh my god. Unintentionally, I let my tongue glide over his lip as he wrapped his other hand in my hair and stepped inside the house, kicking the door with his foot. He opened his mouth, giving me access as I took advantage, feeling his hand gripping onto my waist, I pulled away for a second and his lustful eyes wandered into mine with confusion and a haziness I could only relate to."Steve.. What is this?" I asked intently, feeling a sudden change between us. Lust. "I love you" He stated simply as if it was obvious. "I.. I-" I stumbled on my words as he shushed me and took a hold of my hands. "Listen to me. I have loved you for as long as I can remember okay? It just took me some time to.. act on it. Give me a chance and I promise you this will be forever. I won't screw this up." He promised with a blazing look in his eyes.
I was in so much shock all I could do was nod. He leaned his head down, hanging it lower as he gazed into my eyes. "So do you love me too?" He asked, with a smirk and playful glint in his eyes. "Shut up asshole." I replied, he chuckled as he maintained closeness between us. I leaned forward a little so his lips hovered over mine but he smirked and moved back a little.
"Tell me you love me Murph. Make me the happiest man on the planet." He mumbled, a cheesy smile on his face which made me smile. A few beats passed before I spoke, I licked my lips, loving the way his eyes shot to my lips. There was that word again. The word he craved to hear, part of me wanted to torture him so I breathed him in watching his eyes stalk me like prey.
"My stubborn girl. I fucking love you peach."He repeated before adding on "I don't care if you say it tomorrow or in a week. I need you to know I'm yours. And you're mine." He whispered. I leaned up and mumbled "I love you too Steve." As his face morphed into the physical epitome of joy. Our lips met in a passionate frenzy as he grinned against my mouth.
I playfully shoved him back, turning my back towards him so he couldn't see the blush on my cheeks and the grin holding my face up. I felt him behind me as I jogged down into the basement and slumped down face first on my bed. I felt the bed sink beside me as I lifted my head up seeing an identical smile on his face.
"Little steve would be so happy I got the girl in the sweater." He mumbled, his eyes gazing into mine with a heavy look in them. I leaned my cheek onto my palm, heat radiating off my face as I just stared at his face. How could I have ever hated him? He was misunderstood just like me, we were the same and now we had each other.
We sat like that for a while until my neck cramped and I moved so that my head was on his legs and he was stroking my hair. "I think my dad would've loved you Steve." I breathed, anytime anything huge happened in my life he was the first person I thought of. It hurt that he couldn't be here to witness this, to meet Steve as my boyfriend. I could tell he picked up on the sadness behind my voice because I felt him move to comfort me. He moved a few stray hairs away from my face and leaned down to press his lips to my forehead. We were totally going to be the affectionate couple, the one I would've laughed at a few months ago.
"Let's picture it right now, me meeting him for the first time." He mumbled, his voice soothing me as I turned to my side so I could look up at him. His sharp jawline and full lips in my eye line. "You would probably show up late and flustered knowing you." I chuckled as I saw his lips pull up into a smile. "Yeah I was late getting you flowers peach." He excused as I felt the love swirling in my chest, only he could hypothetically meet my dad.
"Well, I opened the door and damn near kicked your ass, my parents are waiting inside. You're so late Dustin's already started his meal." I complained. He hummed, still smiling, before speaking "I handed you your flowers and asked you if I look okay. If your dad will like me." At this point I'm looking up at my ceiling, feeling miles better than I did before. "I took the flowers and told you, you looked great. Typical Harrington worrying about how good he looks, I dragged you inside and introduce you to everyone." I can see him looking at me in my peripheral, waiting for me to continue, so I do.
"My dad would shake your hand - and that would be the only time he ever does that because he's a hugger. He'd look at you once and then do a thumbs up to me behind your back while my mom hugs you for like 20 minutes." I felt a tear slide down my cheek as I laughed a little at the thought, the potential of what could've been.
"We'd sit down and eat and my dad would talk to you about music cuz that's how he judges how well someone would fit in with us. My mom would practically force you to take left overs and invite you over again. Dustin would probably give you one of his least favourite action figures as a gift and tell you how much he's always wanted a brother. And I... I would walk you out and kiss you. Probably jump up and down and squeal like a child because his approval meant the world to me. And you fit in perfectly. Everything.... was perfect." I finished up. A few beats passed as he inhaled softly.
"I don't need to meet your dad to love him Murph. He and your mom brought you into this world, that's enough for me to love them. I love you more than anything, seeing how much you value his opinion tells me exactly what I need to know." He comforted, his voice soothing me as I relaxed and found myself kissing him once again. It was all we'd done today, I was infatuated with his very being.
I'd never felt as understood as I did with him. My dad would've loved him for sure. I felt an overwhelming sense of comfort as we sat, savouring each others presence. "I love you" I whispered. His head entered my sight as he looked into my eyes, upside down, with the cutest smile, "God I cant get enough of it. Say it again." His eyes pleaded. "I love you Steve Harrington." My voice almost inaudible. "I love you so much Peach."
