"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Nix whispered in my ear. The keys jingled as they collided with each other thanks to my trembling hands. I wiped a bead of sweat from the side of my forehead and tried to concentrate on the task at hand.

Breaking and entering.

Well... I had the keys to the place so I wasn't sure if this was still considered breaking in but hopefully it wouldn't come to that point. The plan was go in and out as swiftly as possible.

"Um...definitely not. I never once mentioned that this was a good plan." I whispered back. I inserted the fifth key into its hole and turned it. It clicked. A smile formed on my face and I turned the door handle down. The door creaked on its hinges as it opened all the way. We both looked at each other then entered the dark space.

I quickly shut the door behind us and the small amount of light which was pouring in was now gone. "So then um, tell me again why we're doing this?! And why are we whispering?! No one's here." I shrugged but realized she probably couldn't see me.

Nix had heard overheard a conversation of her dad's that he was going to be meeting up with Adams to look over one of the assignments he had been tasked with. We thought this was the best time to do what we needed.

"Ouch!" I hissed as something sharp collided with my hipbone. I groaned loudly as I felt the pain growing. "I hope my right kidney's okay." I rubbed the injury I had already managed to sustain.

"Planning on donating them anytime soon? It's a nice gesture but considering we're reptilians, I'm not sure we'll match with anyone." Nix whispered back.

"You're saying our kidneys changed?! Is that even possible?!" I asked. I heard a loud 'oomph' and a chair scraping. "Are you alright?" I frantically looked around for her. I pulled my flashlight out, smacked it a few times and when it finally turned on, my flashlight pointed at her figure that was laying on the ground, holding her knee and rolling around. I moved the flashlight a little higher and saw her hair beginning to grow blue highlights.

"It's okay...it's okay...woah. Um, I'm fine. sorry. At least we found the desk." She groaned as I helped her up on her feet.

"It's okay." I squeezed her shoulder. "Why don't you sit down? I know which drawer he stashed it in." My flashlight was illuminating the top part of the desk. I made my way to the side where Adams sits, rolled the massive chair out of the way and stared at the drawer as if it were some cryptic lock.

My hand slipped into the pocket of my jacket, pulling out the keys. I grabbed the smallest one and inserted it into the key hole.

"Are you sure that's the one?" Nix whispered beside me and I clutched my chest as I felt my heart drop.

"Holy guacamole you nearly gave me a heart attack. Didn't I tell you to sit down?." Rolling my eyes, my gaze dropped back down at the key and the letters D-E-S-K-D-R-A-W-E-R were brightly visible under the flashlight.

I turned the key and it clicked. My heart was hammering away in its chest and I gradually pulled open the drawer as if something was going to pop out of it. Adams had made this way too easy. I was starting to wonder whether he had bought the awards given to him for being a top agent.

Earlier he had dropped his keys after Nix and I were instructed to meet him follow our evals. Instead of giving it back, I, of course had to use it to my full potential...then I'd give it back. Perhaps.

I pulled out the file which felt cold against my skin and threw it on the desk just to make sure it was the one we had been working on. I opened the cover and saw the picture of Jean O'Donnelly.

I quickly shut the drawer which closed with a loud thud and shoved the file into my satchel bag. I wasn't sure how long Adams would be meeting up with Nix's dad for. It was best to get out of this place as soon as possible before someone saw us.
