I groaned when I heard my phone going off. I turned my head to see that it was a little after midnight. Who the hell was calling me at this hour?

I rolled over to look at my phone to see it was Luke. Why was he calling me?

"Luke?" I asked. My voice came out super groggy.

"Marie, can I come over?"

I rubbed my eyes and sat up. My brain trying to comprehend what Luke had just asked.

"What?" I felt super confused.

"Please. I don't have anywhere to go."

"Luke, what's going on? What happened?" I could feel panic starting to rise.

"Can I talk about it later. I really just need somewhere to go."

"Okay okay. I'll be here when you get here."

"Thank you. Be there soon."

He hung up and I put my phone down on the nightstand. I turned on my light and got up out of bed, wrapping my throw blanket around myself. I carefully walked down the stairs to wait by the front door.

When Luke arrived, I met him at the door. He didn't look okay. His blonde hair was super messy, his eyes were red from what looked like crying, and he smelled strong of cigarettes.

"Babe, are you okay?" I asked. But I already knew the answer.

He shook his head and hugged me tightly. I rubbed his back, not knowing what was going on.

"Can we go to bed?" He asked. His voice was shaky.

I nodded, taking his hand to lead him upstairs. I knew that I would have to explain to my mom in the morning what happened but that was the least of my worries.

When we both got to my room, Luke laid down on the outside and I crawled up the bed to lay on the inside. Luke instantly attached himself to me, holding me close. I ran my fingers through his hair soothingly. I wanted to know what was going on, but I could tell he really just needed my support right now.

I kissed his head and he melted into me more.

"I love you." I said.

The words fell right out of my mouth. This was the first time I had said those words out loud. But it felt right.

He smiled for the first time tonight and kissed my cheek.

I love you too."

Both of us soon fell asleep, cuddled close together.

When I woke up the next morning, I sat up carefully. Luke was still asleep and snoring. I smiled and kissed his cheek before getting out of bed carefully.

After putting on my robe, I made my way out of my room, carefully shutting my door behind me.

I could smell coffee as I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. Mom was up, sitting at the table drinking coffee. She had her work clothes on and her hair up in a messy bun. She turned her head when I walked in.

"Morning honey." She said.

"Morning."

I walked over and sat down at the table next to her.

"How'd you sleep?" She asked.

I shrugged. "Okay."

"I saw that Luke's car was outside. Is he here?" She asked.

I nodded.

"Is he okay?"

I shook my head. "I don't think so. But he hasn't told me what happened. He came here last night with red eyes. He looked like he had been crying."

My mom made a sympathetic face.

"Let me know if there is anything you need me to do." She said.

I nodded. Grateful that she wasn't mad that he was here.

"I have to head out to work but promise me to let me know if you or Luke need anything." Mom said.

I nodded and she pulled me into a hug.

We pulled apart and she kissed my head before standing up to get her things for work.

"Love you." She said.

"Love you too." I said.

It was quiet for a bit before I heard footsteps making their way down the stairs. I turned my head to see that it was Luke. He looked like a sleepy baby when he walked into the kitchen. He rubbed his eyes before looking at me.

"Morning baby." I said.

He smiled. "Morning."

He walked over to me and leaned down to kiss me before he sat down next to me. He looked slightly better from when he came last night but I could tell it was still on his mind.

"Anything you want to talk about?" I asked, taking his hand in mine. My thumb tracing his hand.

He sighed and nodded a little.

"I got kicked out."

I paused for a moment.

"What!?"
