Luke nodded sadly.
"What the hell happen?" I asked. My eyes were looking Luke up and down, trying to study his body language.
"My dad and I got into an argument." Luke said with a sigh.
"About?"
I didn't want to force him to tell me, but at the same time, I wanted to know what was going on.
He bit his lip nervously, messing with his fingers before he spoke.
"About our relationship."
I felt my stomach drop.
"W-what?"
He looked at me worriedly, taking my hands in his.
"Baby, I promise you that you are the most important person in my life right now. My father doesn't deserve to know you anyways."
I felt tears come to my eyes. I felt guilty even though I knew I shouldn't.
Luke pulled me into his arms and wrapped me into a hug. He rubbed my back and whispered soothing words in my ear.
"I promise you that everything will be fine." Luke said.
I shook my head, gripping his shirt.
"E-everything isn't going to be f-fine."
Luke pulled me apart from him to look into his eyes. His face was laced with worry and confusion.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
I wiped the tears that had fallen from my eyes, trying to calm myself a bit.
"I n-need a transplant s-soon."
"How soon?"
I struggled to look in his eyes or even at him.
"Couple m-months."
He frowned and pulled me close to him again. He rocked us back and forth a little. Playing with my hair.
"I'll be here for you when the time comes."
I nodded into his shoulder. We stayed like this for a while. Both of us needing each other.
When my mom got home, we all sat down and talked about what happened. Mom immediately pulled Luke into a hug and told him that he was more than welcome to stay with us until things got figured out.
"Thank you so much Heather. You don't know how much that means."
My mom smiled at him.
"Of course, Luke. You're basically family at this point."
Luke smiled.
"I just need to grab stuff from my house. I just have to wait until no one's home." Luke said with a sigh.
"Let's worry about that tomorrow." My mom said.
Luke nodded, letting out a sigh of relief.
The rest of the day/night was spent watching movies and cuddling with each other.
The next morning, Luke and I woke up early. I took my medicines and did my vest before I got dressed for the day. Luke and I ate breakfast and then did the rest of our morning routines before we were ready to go get Luke's stuff.
Mom was driving us over there so that she could help if she needed to.
The drive over there was pretty quiet. Mom was listening to a podcast that was playing quietly in the background. Luke and I were holding hands, but we were both silent. Luke stared out the window while I glanced over at him a couple of times to make sure he was okay.
When we pulled up to the house, Luke held my hand tighter. I squeezed his hand to let him know I was there for him. I gave him a reassuring smile before we both got out. The driveway was completely empty, meaning nobody was home. Luke and I walked up to the front door, and he unlocked it. He took a deep breath before we both walked inside.
"I just need to get clothes from my room." Luke said.
I nodded and continued to hold his hand as he guided me upstairs to his room. His room was at the end of the hall. When we walked in, I was surprised to see his room was clean and neat. Even my room never looks this good.
"I guess my mom came in and straightened the room up." Luke said, moving over to his closet.
He grabbed a large duffle bag and started to throw clothes in there. I knew Luke was nervous about even being here.
"Are you going to let your mom know that you're, okay?" I asked.
Luke nodded, continuing to grab clothes.
"I'll leave a note."
You could hear the sadness in his voice. Liz seemed like an amazing person. His father on the other hand was the complete opposite.
"Alright, I think I got everything I need for now." Luke said.
I nodded before we walked out of his room. We walked down the stairs and Luke ran off into the other room to do something. When he came back, he took my hand and carried his bag in his other hand.
"What did you do?"
"Wrote my mom a note. I'm never coming back here."
I gave him a sympathetic look and we walked out. When we got in the car, my mom asked if Luke got everything he needed.
"Yup." He said.
My mom nodded, before driving us home.
