The one you never had
Bus rides and window views
Of familiar places, you'll never see again
Skyline and tourist queues
That you'll forget once the trip ends
Brushstrokes on forgotten canvas;
A hobby you soon resigned
Beach trips and abandoned sandals
Stranded on the shoreline
A childhood home you leave behind
With pencil marks on door frames
Yellowed bookmarks left inside
Books you sold on yard sales
I can't describe the exact emotion
I feel when I remember you
Except for events unspoken;
Those lost things that I missed too
You are another lost thing
Like water held in warm hands
A cut piece of fate's string
Laced with an uncertain stance
Soon, you escaped from me
A fate I didn't choose
Then, you'll be a memory
Of something I didn't plan to lose
You were a risk that romantics take
Leaving only more lost things to add
Now I know why the worst heartache
Comes from the ones you never had

All Love Lost
