"You need to get laid."
"Shh! Sex is not a necessity Cheryl!"
"If you had had good sex at least once in your life you would know that it is."
I can't help but look around to see if anyone is listening. Cheryl does not have a quiet setting. She is my best friend, but we couldn't be more opposite from each other. It is Sunday night, and we are at a bar where a band has just finished playing, that Cheryl wanted to see.
"I've had good sex; can we please change the subject?"
"I doubt that."
"I do not have time in my life right now for a man, my focus is my career." I've only been out of grad school a few years and I have a life plan that I'm intent upon.
"Which is why I keep saying you need Tinder. Casual hook ups and no strings. Live a little will ya?"
"I don't need a man or sex in my life."
My best friend Cheryl and I have been having the same conversation since college. She is a little crazy and a lot of fun packed into a tiny little woman with a huge voice. I adore her but we are total opposites.
"When is the last time you had sex," asks Cheryl?
"I don't know, with Scott I guess."
"You broke up with him two years ago. Your vagina probably has cobwebs by now. Let me set you up with Tinder."
"Cheryl!"
"Sailor, I will leave you alone about this if you get Tinder." She is relentless and all I want to do at this point is go home, it is a work night.
"Fine, but I'm not having sex with some random stranger from an app."
"We'll see, hand me your phone."
The next day, on my way out to lunch from work I hear my name being called out.
"Sailor, wait up," says David Burns. David is the last person I want to run into, he will not take no for an answer and pesters me almost daily to go out with him. Because it would be rude to not hold the elevator for him, I do begrudgingly.
