Helen texted me from the airport in New York before they took the connection through Qatar to Nepal. Still no news but she promised me she would let me know when she heard something. I went to work with a slight hangover and a puffy face from all the crying.

After the morning meeting with Pat and the Senior Partners I had a meeting with my new team. I was officially announced as the newest Senior Partner. I had an entire department reporting to me including a Partner that had already started filling in when Mr. Albatross went out on medical leave unexpectedly, it was he who found the problem. He had two department heads reporting to him, one for the Astor account and one or two other large accounts that would temporarily be reporting up to another Senior Partner and he would have two leads for the interim.

When I returned to my office later there was a note on my desk from David asking me to call him when I had a few minutes to talk. I sent him an email telling him I had time at four if he wanted to stop by then. At four David popped in with a huge file and sat in one of the club chairs facing my new desk.

"Your office is lovely Sailor."

"Thank you, it's all still a bit of a shock to me."

"I can only imagine. I've been given your official offer letter from Mr. George today so I'm here to finalize your acceptance and provide you information on Senior Partner benefits."

"Okay, thank you."

"As a Senior Partner you get paid holidays, ten days of sick time and two months of paid time off each year for vacation. Your salary has been adjusted and is reflected here." David passes over the offer letter from Pat and it is hard to keep the shock off my face. The salary bump is amazing and more than I ever imagined.

"Wow, okay. Thank you."

"Please sign these papers." I sign them and hand them back to David.

"Your annual bonus is tied to the retention of your account portfolio and top employees. This year it will be based on a half year's potential, the annual potential is based upon a percentage of the revenue you brought into the business. Mr. George will go over that with you at year end as he keeps this to himself."

"Thanks David, I appreciate you going over all this."

"That's my job. Last thing, here is your Corporate Card." David stands to leave my office. I can tell he is biting his tongue and I wonder why someone who grew up with the wealth of Tahoe's' community would even do the work he does.
