Cherri's P.O.V

Groaning, I wake up from another failed attempt at sleeping. Despite the both of us tiring ourselves out from the day's events, I still can't seem to calm down enough to put my mind at peace. Glancing up from my resting place on his chest, I see that Y/N's face is scrunched in his sleep, which must mean that he's having a nightmare. I don't like seeing him this way, so I scooch myself up a bit and tenderly press a kiss onto his neck before soothingly whispering in his ear, telling him that I'm here and that I'll protect him.

We're currently wrapped around one another while sleeping on the bed we were able to drag in that other time when Angie and I were staying to lay low. Yep, we're back in the still-standing workshop directly below where my apartment used to be. With some of the furniture we salvaged before, the space feels a bit more homey, the bed being decent, the dinner table with chairs still holding up, and the partially torn couch is still usable. Admittedly, Y/N and I were worn out and still wounded from how rough that warehouse mission went, so we weren't really in the mood to try and scout out another new place to crash for the night, leading to us just defaulting to walking our asses back here whilst trying to stay out of sight. We probably could've tried staying in that high rise apartment one more night, but I probably would've gotten sick of all the fancy decorum anyway and Y/N didn't feel comfortable staying in the same place for two nights in a row. Might've been a bit paranoid, but I wasn't looking to argue.

One of our phones then starts buzzing on the dinner table nearby and I exhale in frustration, not wanting to get up and leave the warm, very comfortable position I'm in with my boyfriend. But, at the same time, I don't want to wake him up and disrupt his sleep, so I sigh and gently work my way out of his embrace, slipping out of the bed and padding over to the table. Since it's nearly pitch black in here, I can't quite tell who's phone it is, but I pick it up and answer it anyway, not bothering to check the caller ID since I'm still in a slight daze from having just woken up.

"Hello?" I ask in a grumpy, yet quieter tone than normal, walking off so I'm not close enough to wake up Y/N.

"Excuse me, but what is the slut that keeps opening her legs to seduce her boyfriend doing answering his phone?" The annoyed and critical voice of Velvet snaps.

"Fuck you" I retort with equal annoyance, yawning and swallowing, "He's asleep and I don't want to wake him. If you have something to tell him, let me know and I'll tell him when it's morning."

"It is morning, genius. Daylight broke an hour and a half ago" The overlord replies with more attitude, really tempting me to just hang up on her right now, "But if you must know, thanks to the social media campaign I just so happened to construct yesterday evening, quite a large number of workers have left Vox Multimedium, getting all riled up about realizing how unfairly their treated, yadda, yadda, yadda. Anyway, the point is that your final destination is now wide open, so if you're looking for a time to strike, you better get on it fast."

"Alright, fine" I shake my head, really wanting to sleep more, but still accepting that she's right.

"A 'thank you' would be nice but I guess that's too much to ask from someone like you" Velvet says rudely, making me end the call there.

I bite my lip, unsure if I want to wake Y/N now. Sure, that bratty bitch of an overlord stressed that it was some matter of importance, but I'm not about to let her start getting the idea in her head that she can boss either of us around whenever she feels like it. Sighing and rubbing my eye, I trot over to where we dumped our supply bags, being as quiet as possible as I sort through the remaining contents. The pain from my wounds yesterday flare up again, though, so I have to check them and make sure they haven't started bleeding again. Thankfully, they haven't, which reaffirms my confidence in my stitching skills since I had to make do when patching up myself and Y/N on the way back here. But, back to our duffel bags, we should have just enough, though we'll probably have to avoid getting into large scale shootouts to ensure our ammo will get us through it.
