Wolf's POV
5 hours missing
Love is a funny thing. I now know I had never experienced true, unconditional love before Clove and now that I have, the fear of losing it is crippling. It's like I have been suffocating for 32 years, and then I finally get a taste of real oxygen, just for the universe to literally take the air out of my lungs.
I haven't been able to take a full deep breath in five hours because that is how long she has been gone. He has had her for five hours, that's 300 minutes or 18,000 seconds that she has known nothing but fear, and it's all my fault.
Maybe Batter was right, maybe I should have stayed away from her because Jesse truly saw our love and became jealous of it. Maybe we should have finished the hit early despite the media circus.
But now it's all would've, should've, could've.
To make things worse, we have no leads as to where she is. Bear is trying to track the live stream link, but apparently, Jesse is more than just a psychopath, he is also a secret hacking genius. Despite that, the girls, the Smithville hacker Cricket, and I are still trying to track Jesse, but it has gotten us nowhere.
We have nothing.
It's my damn job to find people, and I cannot find her. I am failing her again.
"Here's some coffee," Amber says as she places a cup in front of me as I stare blankly at the map of the city we tapped to the wall.
"I don't need this," I say as I sit it on the table in front of me. Anything that takes my concentration away from Jesse is irrelevant right now. My only focus is finding him, finding her.
"Don't go quiet on us," Amber mumbles as she walks to the other side of the room where Grace has her nose stuck in a stack of papers.
"Did you find anything, Grace?" I ask, ignoring Amber's remark.
"Not yet, some of the properties Jesse used to manage are abandoned, but that list is way too long to check all of them," Grace responds.
"Okay, then we narrow the list down," Amber responds.
"Yeah, we know the van was found on Easton Ave, that's on the east side, headed across the river. Maybe we start with properties in that area," I reason. This isn't much of a lead but it's better than nothing.
"Okay, I'll get Cricket to compile the list and I'll give it to Blade. He can get teams together to go do drive-bys," Grace says as she takes the stack of papers and leaves the room.
"This is good," Amber smiles, "this is a lead."
"It's not enough," I growl.
Amber seems to ignore my comment as she moves to the corner of the room and begins digging through more papers. We also had Skillet make a list of all the places he could remember tracking Jesse to the past few months, but none of them seem to fit the profile.
I slightly jump at a knock on the office door, but I don't turn around to see who it is. Quite frankly, I don't care who it is unless they can tell me where Clove is.
"Hey brother, you need to slow down a minute," Grease says as he enters the room and nods at Amber who takes the hint and leaves.
"I can't fucking slow down," I yell, "Jesse isn't slowing down."
"Blade has an entire schedule laid out, we are sleeping in shifts and then going out to clear the properties on the east side. We also have a schedule for people watching the live stream, just our chapter, and the girls to keep it in-house," he tries to reason.
