There was a bubble of anticipation in your chest when you wake up the next day, nervous and excited all at once. You couldn't stop thinking about your evening plans - all the ways it might go, what would happen, what he would be like. Your skin was reactive to everything, your blood heated from the frustration of waiting.

Jessica had taken your manipulation like always, the suggestion she should have a sleepover with Max at your place making her brim with excitement, hurrying to get dressed so she could head over across the street to ask the redhead, who accepted the invitation thankfully.

Neil and Susan had left early and you caught Billy heading out not long after, though you duck down so he doesn't think you're some crazed psycho who's obsessed with him.

You weren't. You didn't think. But anyway, you'd had a shower and groomed yourself to perfection, wanting to look and feel your best - not only for him, but for yourself. It was important to you that you didn't focus all your attentions on Billy, but also on feeling good just for yourself.

Your phone was ringing in the handset beside your bed when you get back into the room and you pick up, greeting whoever was calling and hoping it was someone you knew and not some random person wanting your parents. "Hey! I have some amazing news!" Eddie's voice comes tumbling through the receiver and you grin, pressing it closer against your ear as you perch on the edge of your bed. "Hey Ed's, what's new?"

"You'll never guess who was at the show last night!"

"Are you going to make me actually guess, or just tell me?" You muse, laying down against the sheets as a chuckle rumbles through the phone at you. "Some hotshot talent scout from Los Angeles was in town visiting family and saw our set and wants us to play for him. If it goes well, I might not have to go back to fucking high school after all!"

"What?!" You shriek, pushing to sit back up, "Eddie, that's amazing!"

"Right? We're heading to a party at this dudes house on Saturday night. You in?"

"Duh-! Of course I'm in. Oh, and Eddie-? Congratulations! You so deserve it, Corroded Coffin played so awesomely last night."

"Aw, stop it you'll make me blush. Thanks though, we're all super stoked and can't wait to go. What are you up to today? Want to celebrate with us tonight?" He sounded so eager and you felt a small pit of guilt in your chest, knowing you'd have to decline.

"Oh I can't tonight. Me and Billy have...plans." You weren't sure how to word it, so figure that will do. He didn't need to know what those plans were after all.

"Oh my god, are you boning? You said that weirdly, so I'm guessing you are. Holy shi--"

"Stop!" You were laughing as you cut him off, "We might be, yes, but it's not nearly as exciting as your news."

"Yeah, you can say that because you haven't had to be a part of the weird sexual tension you guys had all this time." He snorts, "Whatever, just have a good time, be safe and for the love of God, don't get pregnant. You'd be a shitty mom. You hate kids."

"Hey-! I mean, you're right, but still fuck you for pointing it out." You were beaming as you said it, heart racing with happiness for Eddie. You were still thinking about his news, overjoyed that he was finally getting some recognition. He deserved the world, but would never get it so long as Hawkins kept him prisoner. So he didn't graduate, what did that matter? Once he was famous, it would be the last thing anyone cared about.

"I better go, but have fun with Haaargrove!" He draws the name out suggestively and makes kissing sounds down the phone to annoy you, but it didn't even begin to ruin the mood you were in. Still, you hang up on him anyway so he doesn't get used to you being lenient with his behavior.
