The two started walking. They didn't make it far before Mike stopped in his tracks. (Y/N) turned around, confused. "What?"

"As much as I love the atmosphere," Mike said, gesturing to the sky. "I can't see shit."

(Y/N) nodded in agreement. "Yeah... Hmm," He whispered, looking around. "I think Josh has like a spare flashlight somewhere..."

(Y/N) went back to the lodge. He walked under the stairs and found the toolbox that Josh had put there years ago. Mike watched, confused on how (Y/N) knew that was there. "How'd you know that was there?"

"Josh showed me a couple years ago," (Y/N) answered, rummaging through the supplies. There was a bunch of things there - matches, whistles, and things to help if one was to go out on their own into the woods.

Mike frowned slightly. "So you and Josh are pretty close, then?" It seemed like (Y/N) was good friends with everyone. It wasn't fair. Mike wasn't often jealous, but something about (Y/N) made him.

"Uh, duh. Are you joking?" (Y/N) glanced at Mike before turning back to look for the flashlight. He found it, pulling it out of the box. He packed the rest of the items up and closed the box, standing up.

"No..."

(Y/N) turned to Mike. "I was friends with Josh before anyone else in this group. I've known him for... Shit, ten, eleven years? I lost count."

Mike still felt jealous, but slightly less so. If something was to happen between Josh and (Y/N), it surely would've happened a long time ago, right? (Y/N) handed him the flashlight. "Thanks."

"No problem," (Y/N) replied with a smile. The two began to walk. Mike tried not to stare, but it was hard. (Y/N) walked in front of him and Mike's eyes kept trailing up and down his body. "So, what was that fight all about?"

"Huh? What-" Mike stammered, quickly tearing his gaze away from (Y/N)'s body. He met his eyes. "Oh... Emily's jealous, I guess. 'Cause I broke up with her and got with Jess."

"Like... right after you two broke up?"

"Well, yeah."

"Ouch," (Y/N) said, stopping to face Mike. "But you said earlier that you didn't even like Jess. So why...?"

Mike shifted nervously. "I dunno. I guess... I just don't wanna be alone, y'know?" It was the truth. Not the whole truth, but the truth.

"I'm alone. And it's great," (Y/N) told him, then paused. "Well, maybe not great... But whatever. It's fine."

Mike wanted to pry. He knew (Y/N) didn't have a partner. But he had to have a crush on somebody, right? "And if you were to get with someone... Who would it be?"

(Y/N) thought for a moment. Mike watched his face intently, waiting for the answer. "I'm... not sure."

"Really?" Mike teased. "You've never thought about it?"

"Not really," (Y/N) turned around, starting to walk again. "Come on, it's freezing outside."

It wasn't the answer Mike wanted, but it was better than actually naming someone other than him. He was fine with that.

After a minute, the two arrived at a gate. Mike pressed the button, but nothing happened. "Huh... Guess this thing needs juice."

"There's a generator over here," (Y/N) told Mike. Mike followed (Y/N) down the path. There was a small shack. "Give me a moment." (Y/N) began to work on getting the generator back up.

Mike looked at the ground and found a totem. "The hell is this...?" He picked it up, curious. "(Y/N), what's this?"

(Y/N) glanced back. "I... Have no clue. Must be Josh's, or maybe some visitor to the mountain."

Mike placed the totem back on the ground. Suddenly, the lights came on. "Awesome, man," Mike said. The two walked back to the gate. Mike held the gate open for (Y/N).

"Thank you," (Y/N) smiled at him.

"You're welcome," Mike replied softly, a warm smile coming to his face. (Y/N) made him sappy and he didn't know why. He wasn't even dating him, but he felt closer to (Y/N) than anyone he's ever dated.

The two came upon a bridge. (Y/N) leaned over the side, looking at the rushing water. "You'd think it'd be frozen," He said to Mike before continuing on the path.

"I don't think running water can freeze," Mike answered, glancing at the water before following the other. (Y/N) began to laugh. "What?"

"Running water can freeze, Mike," (Y/N) laughed. "That has to be the... dumbest... thing..." His sentence quieted as his eyes landed on some police tape.

Mike stood next to him, looking at it. Silence filled the air. Mike could see the pain on (Y/N)'s face. "From Hannah and Beth," Mike stated plainly.

(Y/N) was quiet for a moment. "I can't believe it's been a year already."

"It's all such a blur... I barely even remember what happened," Mike said. It was partially true. It was a blur. He didn't really remember anything that happened after the prank. But before...? Yeah, he remembered.

"I remember," (Y/N) said quietly. "But I wish... that I didn't."

Mike didn't know what to say. He placed a hand on (Y/N)'s shoulder. "Wherever they are, I'm sure they're glad we're all thinking about them."

(Y/N) looked at Mike. Mike could see how hurt he was, but (Y/N) was trying to hide it. (Y/N) slid a hand on top of Mike's squeezing it gently. "I hope so."

The two remained in the position for a moment. Looking into each other's eyes. (Y/N) could see the regret in Mike's face. He was worried Mike just brush it off, but he was glad Mike wasn't like that.

"Come on," (Y/N) said, taking his hand off of Mike's. Mike could instantly feel the cold pick at his skin again as (Y/N) walked off. Mike took one last glance at the police tape before catching up with the other.

After a minute, Mike spoke up again. "Hey... (Y/N)?"

(Y/N) stopped and turned around. "Hmm?"

"I... I wanted to talk about..." Mike couldn't do it. He wanted to confess, but he couldn't. "About Jess."

"What about her?"

Mike didn't know what to say. "Um... Well, you know I'm in love with someone else, right?" (Y/N) nodded and Mike continued. "So... I was hoping, by getting with Jess, I would lose the feelings for the other person."

(Y/N) nodded, listening. "That didn't work, though. You're still in love with this 'mystery person.'"

"I am."

"You want my advice?"

"Yes, please," Mike replied. (Y/N) was great at advice. He never steered Mike wrong before.

"Break up with Jess. Seriously, why play with her feelings? It's a dick move," (Y/N) told him honestly.

"Noted," Mike chuckled.

"And for the person, who shall remain nameless... Go for it. It's better to know earlier than get your feeling hurt later," (Y/N) said. Mike wished it was that easy. His feelings would also hurt now. He'd had a crush on (Y/N) for a long time. It was going to hurt.

"Okay... So, what about-"

"Mike!"

The two looked in the direction of the voice. Jess ran towards the two, a little out of breath. "Jess, what are you doing here?" Mike asked her.

"I... I wanted to apologize. About Emily. And... you know," Jessica said flirtatiously.

Mike glanced over at (Y/N), unsure what to do. (Y/N) smiled sympathetically at him. "I'll head back, then. Have fun, you two," (Y/N) winked at them.

"Oh, we will," Jessica grinned, waving at (Y/N).

(Y/N) walked off, leaving Jessica and Mike alone. Mike didn't know what to do. So, he just went with what he knew. "M'lady," He smiled, holding his hand out for Jess. Jessica wrapped his hand around hers, and the two began to walk the rest of the way to the cabin.
