The next few minutes were a blur. (Y/N) and Mike had been blown up by the explosion, not injured, but definitely hurt. They were thrown outside, where they thought they were safe. But the Wendigo, now on fire, proved them wrong.

The two of them ran for it, eyes eventually landing on a door. (Y/N) didn't know where it led to, but anywhere was better than out there with that creature.

But the second they opened the door, the creature leapt for them. It landed on (Y/N), ready to strike. But Sam had shown up just in time and swung her shovel, decapitating the creature.

"Ugh!" (Y/N) groaned, pushing the burning body off of him. Mike helped him to his feet while Sam locked the door behind them.

"You alright?" Mike asked (Y/N), patting him on the back as he stood up.

"Y-Yeah, yup, I'm good," (Y/N) replied, just happy to not have died.

"Sam? You okay?" Mike looked at her, clearly thankful for her help. (Y/N) was thankful, but his mind was still swirling. He needed a minute.

"Define 'okay'," Sam smiled softly at him.

"Alive, for a start," Mike chuckled.

"Yeah, yeah, alive is good," Sam nodded. The two men before her looked like shit. Mike was even worse than when he had left. (Y/N)'s face... Shit, that looked like it hurt.

"What the hell are you doing here anyway?" Mike asked, curious. He told her to stay in the basement.

"I was gonna warn you about the Wendigos," Sam said, throwing her hands up in defeat.

"Bit late for that," (Y/N) smiled at her. It hurt to smile, but he did it anyway.

Sam laughed softly. "Also, we figured... the only way off the mountain is the lift."

"Right," Mike nodded.

"But... Josh has the key."

"I thought Chris and Jack were getting Josh?" (Y/N) piped up. That's what Mike had told him anyway.

"Jack?" Sam looked confused.

"The creepy old guy," Mike informed her.

"Ah. Well..." Just seeing the look on Sam's face said it all.

"Oh..." (Y/N) whispered, barely audible.

"Jesus... Is Chris alive?" Mike asked, glancing at (Y/N). He could see he was upset.

"Yeah, he's back at the lodge. But Josh... He got taken. The Wendigo's have him, in their home," Sam explained further. "We need to save him."

"If he's even still alive..." Mike mumbled. "Let's go to where this fucker lives."

Sam nodded, and the three of them left to go find Josh. Sam continued to explain while they walked.

But Mike could see how hurt (Y/N) looked. He didn't understand why. That guy abducted and kept him prisoner.

But to (Y/N), Jack was a savior. He saved his life. He helped him stay safe. He wasn't evil... He was a good guy.

"(Y/N)..." Mike whispered to him.

There was no reply. Mike said his name again, louder this time. "Huh?" (Y/N) snapped out of his thoughts. "What?"

"I'm sorry about Ja-"

"I'm fine."

"Its just that you look-"

"I'm fine."

Sam put a hand on Mike's shoulder, giving him a sympathetic look. She was encouraging him to just drop the conversation and let (Y/N) deal with it. Mike didn't like it, but he stopped talking about it.

The three of them came upon a lake. It had a giant wheel. Mike figured it used to be part of the mine. They stood, looking down into the water.

Sam could see the uncertainty in the men's faces. She figured she needed to be first. "I'm going in." She sat, feet barely touching the water, before slipping in. It came just above her knees, and it was fucking freezing. "Brr, it's freezing! I can't feel my fingers!"

She started walking, looking back at the others. Mike sighed before going it. It was cold as shit, but still manageable. He looked back at (Y/N). "Come on, it's okay," He encouraged, holding a hand out.

(Y/N) took a deep sigh. "Why couldn't this have just been a fun weekend..." He mumbled before getting into the water. Yup. That was cold as fuck. He reached forward and grabbed Mike's hand, thankful for having some bit of comfort.

They continued walking, and the water began to rise. It was up to Sam's chest now. "W-Wait a minute, I thought we reached the deepest part!" Sam gasped.

"Not even sure this is the deepest yet," Mike chuckled, his voice shaking from the cold. He kept his injured hand in the air, just in case of infections. But his hand that was interlocked with (Y/N)'s had been submerged long ago. He just appreciated the warmth he got from it.

"Maybe up here?" (Y/N) pointed out a little cliff.

"Y-Yeah," Sam agreed. She jumped up onto the ledge, realizing it was now even colder out of the water.

Mike let go of (Y/N)'s hand to climb up, then helped (Y/N) up. The three of them looked around for a way out, but to no avail. "It's a dead end," (Y/N) stated. "Sorry."

"Don't worry, we'll find another way," Mike reassured him.

"What's this?" Sam questioned. The two looked over at her and saw that she had a book in her hand. They huddled over, curious.

"Oh shit... That looks like Hannah's writing," Mike said, eyes widening.

Sam read to herself, until she came upon a page that made her stomach drop. "I'm sorry, Beth... I had no choice. It's the only way I can survive anymore. If someone finds this, I'm sorry. I had to, I had no choice."

"What does it mean... Jesus," Mike's voice shook as he spoke. He hated the guilt inside him. Reading this didn't make him feel any better.

"It... It means... oh, God," (Y/N) took a step back, rubbing his neck. "Fucking hell..."

"What?" Mike questioned, not understanding.

"It makes sense..." Sam breathed out. "It makes sense. Hannah... Hannah was down here for..."

"Too long..." (Y/N) interrupted. "She was... Oh, fuck..."

Mike slowly began to understand. "No... No, I don't believe it."

"She would have been starving," Sam cried, tears beginning to fall. "She would have been desperate!"

"Fuck!" Mike threw up his hands, unable to comprehend it. There's no way. No way. "Hannah couldn't have. No..."

"Hannah..." (Y/N) muttered out.

"We need to find Josh. Right now," Sam told them. She didn't have to say it twice. Mike got into the water first, helping Sam down, then (Y/N). He held his hand again, noticing a firmer grip than before.

The look on (Y/N)'s face said it all. Fear, confusion, remorse... It was all there. Mike was ready to get the key and get the hell out out of there.
