Days, maybe even weeks go by. The days felt like weeks, the weeks felt like months. Day after day, night after night people were dying and we were losing this war. Ian eventually died due to blood loss and many other soldiers whom I got to know, but never bonded with, died.
I was alone in the middle of nowhere. It was dark and it was cold, I had nothing to keep me warm and I was afraid, afraid that I might die out here with no food and little water. I walked for what seemed like days. I was so tired that my legs became weak and they gave out. As I fell to the ground I felt my whole body starting to shut down, my breathing became weak, my heart beat became slower and my eyes soon became heavy. The last thing I remember seeing before passing out was a pair of headlights coming towards my direction.
When I woke I was in a cell, just like every time, but this cell was nicer than the others, there was a window with sunlight shining through, the bed was comfortable, there was a nice desk right next to the bed along with a hell a nice chaire, and when I say "nice" I mean comfortable it was really quite ugly, it had red and white stripes running across it and red padding in the middle with foam in it, for when you sit down it feels like you're sinking in to it.
After a while a guard came in and said, "about time you woke up." I looked at him confused and said, "what do you mean, how long was I out?""48 hours." my eyes widened and I took a few steps back. "48 hours?!" I echoed. He nodded then walked away.
I was lying in bed when he came back with food and coffee in his hands. I sat up and galdy took the food from him. It was rice, a half letter cup of coffee and Lungao (a Filipino word that was typically made for breakfast). It was a rice gruel made with some kind of green vegetable. It wasn't that bad.
Once I was finished eating the guard came and took the dishes away. To be honest I really didn't get why they didn't just bring me to the cafeteria like everyone else. I thanked him anyway for the food and coffee, but he left without saying anything back.
I was in that cell for another 48 hours before they let me go and sent me back to war. I was put in a military jeep and was taken to a beach, where I got on a boat to the Pacific Ocean. The boat that I got on was a USS Fletchers with white stripes across it. I've always hated boats, never knew why, just didn't really like them. The sun was setting and the wind grew colder each second. I was forced to be on the lookout while the other men were inside smoking, drinking, getting high and playing poker. Meanwhile I'm freezing my ass off and trying not to fall asleep.
As the sun disappeared over the horizon, the water was as smooth as class. There was silence for a couple of minutes, but someone drunk as hell broke it. There was a loud crash and the sound of glass breaking over someone's head, a scream of pain echoed in the air and other's yelling, "It's just a game!"
It was heading towards midnight and I was slapping myself to stay awake, but It was no use, I eventually fell asleep and instantly regretted it when I awoke.
