My face went from scared to terrified. "Will this nightmare ever end?!" I said to myself. At that point I was giving up, why not end it all now? "Tom, we have to move, now!" Yelled Aiden as he grabbed my arm and tried to convince me to jump, but I shook my head and said, "just go without me man, I'm no help!"

"Tom, if we don't go now, we're going to die!"

"No, only I am." I push Aiden off and the ship explodes. The last thing I remember seeing that day was Aiden plunging into the icy water, then everything went dark.

Aiden breaks the surface gasping for air and looks up at the burning ship. Thousands of other men were still jumping off the ship and being burnt alive. The burning men's screams died as they hit the freezing water below. 'Cause water below zero and fire don't mix. The shock of cold and your heart racing causes you to go into shock and drown.

Aiden stayed where he was, looking up at the now sinking ship, tears were streaming down, but it wasn't just for me, it was for the rest of his friends he couldn't save as well. "Aiden!" yelled Henry, waving him over. He turned around and swam towards Henry, who was on an inflatable raft with a couple of other people he saved named Oliver and Dee.

Oliver had black hair and brown eyes and was African American, Dee had brownish hair, brown eyes and he had a scar running across the right side of his face. They pulled Aiden up on the raft and Henry grabbed the ores and guided the raft away from the burning ships.

One by one ships exploded in the distance causing the water to ripple and shake. Smoke covered the sky and more ships were being engulfed in flames followed by more explosions. Aiden winced in fear each time as a ship exploded. His heart pounded through his chest, his mind swam with questions he couldn't put into words, all except for this one, am I going to die?

The chances of that happening were hell a high, but he knew that he wasn't going down without a fight.

Hours passed and Aiden was starting to get sea sick, Henry's arms became weak from rowing the raft for hours upon hours without stopping, Oliver was sleeping and Dee was writing a letter. Aiden got a hold of it and he read it aloud, it read,

"Dear Angela,

I miss you so much, it's been years since I've last written to you. I've seen things I wish I could unsee. Angel, I'm scared, scared that I might never get to see your beautiful face again, scared that I might never get to feel your love again. I just wish that you were wrapped up in my arms once more. But no matter what happens Angela, you will always be my angel, no matter where I am, whether it's 6ft under or across the globe, I will always love you.

Your     beloved,
Dee. "

Aiden's smile turned upside down as he finished reading the letter aloud. He hands it back to Dee and says, "sorry, my bad." Dee grabs the letter roughly out of his hands and says, "it's fine, but you shouldn't have grabbed it in the first place." Aiden looked down then back at Dee and said, "I know, I won't do it again, I promise." Dee nods then continues writing another letter.

The sun drops and the temperature drops along with it. Aiden shivers as he hugs himself to try and keep warm, but it's no use. They were dehydrated and hungry, and they didn't know how long they would be lost at sea.

More than 5 hours have passed and there was a splash in the water and Oliver's eyes became wide. "Did you guys hear that?" He asked as he looked over the side of the raft and into the dark and bottomless ocean.

A tailfin went past Oliver and he jumped back, startled 'cause he thought it was a shark. They all had a good laugh and forgot that it ever happened. "23 hours have passed!" Said Dee randomly. "And not a single boat nor island in sight!" They were getting impatient and they wanted to end it all right then and there, but yet again there was another splash in the water, but this time Oliver didn't get startled be the tailfin, instead he grabbed it and pulled it up on the raft, and that day they all had raw salmon and their stomach were well satisfied, but on the down side, raw fish made you very thirsty and water was what they desperately needed.

It's been days, so many days that Dee lost count, he got up to maybe 24 or 26 then nothing. After maybe a month or 2 had passed, they all felt like they were going to die any minute, but hope was with them and nothing more than a miracle happened when the sun rose from the horizon on the 15th of February, 1944, Aiden spotted an island not too far away! Everyone shouted for joy as Henry guided the raft towards the island.

Once they arrived, they found a body, lying lifelessly on the beach. "Tom!?" said Aiden looking at the others then back at my unconscious body.
