Aiden ran towards me and placed two fingers on my neck to check my pulse, but there was no heartbeat, so he did CPR checking if there was a heartbeat every 6 to maybe 10 chest compressions. "Come on, wake up damn it." whispered Aiden. "Aiden, give up, he's gone!" yelled Henry, grabbing his shoulder and pulling him away. "No! I'm not giving up, I know he's still alive!"
"That's impossible, Aiden, he's dead and we just have to move on! You can't save everyone in this war, Aiden, we're all going to die, not all of us get to make a difference." Aiden stopped what he was doing, looked up at Henry and said, "this man saved my life, the least I could do is try and save his."
With that Henry backed up and left him alone to waste his time trying to save a dead man, and within 45 minutes he succeeded. I sat up puking water out and gasping for air. Trust me I don't know how, or why I was even alive, I should've been dead. That long with water in my lungs should've killed me, but the fact that I even puked the water out and gasped for air that day is nothing more than a miracle.
Aiden hugged me and yelled, "guys, he's alive!" The others came running over and looked down at me with blank and stunned faces. "That's impossible," said Henry, taking a few steps back. "You shouldn't be alive, water was in your lungs for months."
"It's a miracle," said Oliver. Henry and Aiden look at him with faces that seem to have said, no shit. Oliver shrugged his shoulders and said, "there's no other way to describe it."
"We know Oliver," said Henry and Aiden together. "What are the odds?" I asked, looking at Aiden. "I mean, I could've washed up on any other island, but somehow it happened to be this one."
"I don't know, the odds are extremely high, but somehow the impossible became possible."
The sun was setting and we had little time before the temperature became below freezing. "We should build a fire, it's going to get dark and cold soon," I said, getting up on my feet and I started looking for branches. Aiden helped me with the branches as the others went looking for stones.
Once we were done building the fire, it was nightfall and the stars illuminated the sky. As we were talking, and once Aiden was done telling his story of how they all met and how they were stranded on a raft for months, we saw lights from afar. "Hey, guys look, a boat!" I said, pointing in the direction. We all yelled and screamed for their attention, but it was no use, they couldn't hear us.
Moments later Oliver grabbed a flashlight out, swung it around and yelled, "hey, over here!" We all looked at him and I said, "where the hell did you get that? You had that this whole damn time?" He looked at me with a confused face and replied with, "What, you don't have a flashlight? I thought everyone had one?"
"Well, I'm sorry, I lost mine when I got propelled off of a damn ship!" I spat. The ship edged closer and we stopped arguing with Oliver and we began screaming for joy, we were almost home free, but once the ship was close enough for the light to hit it, our screams of joy became screams of terror! That ship was not an Allied ship, it was a Nazi ship and my blood ran cold, my heart pounded and my mind spun. "Shit, shit! Tom, what do we do?" said Aiden, shaking me to get my attention. "Run, hide and don't let them find you, 'cause if they do, it's all over and your life is over."
There weren't many places to hide, it was a small island and it didn't have many trees ethere. We ran into the darkness, turning off the flashlight, so they couldn't see where we had gone. Minutes later we hear their feet splash in the water as they come onto the island. Footsteps dashed across the dry sand and the lights from the ship died out and the only light that was provided was the light from the stars and moon above.
We knew that it was only a matter of time before they found us and we needed a plan to steal their ship and not get killed in the process. The plan was simple, I was going to distract one of the Nazis by throughing someting at him or in the far distance as Dee does a silent take down and slit his throat or at least knock him out. Aiden was going to steal one of their guns, shoot him, then we all proceed to kill everyone else.
Everything was going according to plan, until it came to Aiden's turn. He stole the gun okay, but didn't quite get the kill. The Nazi turned around and wacked him in the face. He fell to the ground with a loud thud. The Nazi picked up his gun and was going to shoot Aiden. The Nazi cocked the gun and pointed it right at Aiden's head. "Wait!" I yelled as Dee pulled me back covering my mouth. "Shh, quite," he whispered. "Or else you're going to get us all killed."
Tears streamed down my face as the Nazi pulled the trigger. I ripped Dee's hand off my mouth and yelled, "No, you bastard!" I grabbed Oliver's flashlight out of his hands and ran towards the Nazi. Bullets flew past me and kicked up sand as they hit the ground. All this anger built up inside me, the anger I've been holding in for 6 years was finally being released. I couldn't think properly and before I knew it I was face to face with the Nazi and I wacked him in the face with the flashlight as hard as I could. I picked up his gun and shot him, finishing him off like he did with Aiden. I turned the flashlight on and saw Aiden, laying on the dry sand and blood oozing out from his head, dying his blond hair red. "Aww, you gonna cry?" said a familiar voice behind me.
I turned around and I saw Walter standing right in front of me, the Nazi I've been hunting down for 6 years! With the same smile he had when he murdered my family in cold blood. I had the chance to kill him right then and there. "Go to hell!" I said pointing the gun right at his big forehead. "Come on now." He said with a devilish smile. "We both know you can't kill."
"I've killed a lot of people you dumbass, your men specifically, can't you see your man over there lying in a pool of his own blood?" I put the light on the dead Nazi and Walter's face went pale. "Bye-bye bitch, have a fun time in hell." I said as I pulled the trigger and watched as the blood spilled from his head. The other two Nazis dropped their guns and surrendered, but I killed them anyways.
I buried Aiden, as Dee, Oliver and I got on the ship and went back home to America. We won the war and I got my revenge on Walter. Later that day Hitler took his own life and the world was rejoicing.
It took 2 days to get home and once we got off the ship it was nightfall again, and there were tons of tents up with lights illuminating the area. Once I got there I saw Jerry, all healed up, he was in a tent sitting down on a bed, a lantern sat next to the bed and it lit up the tent.
Turns out it was just a dream after all, Jerry didn't die. I ran to the tent as fast I could and as soon as I stepped foot in that tent Jerry's face lit up and he hugged me. Claire looked as beautiful as the last time I saw her, and Ariana came running towards me and gave me the biggest hug, bigger than the hug she gave me when she thought she was never going to see me again and she said, "You did it, you won for me, for all of us!" She gave me a huge smile, hugged me one last time then ran off.
"There's pain in your eyes." said Jerry, putting a hand on my shoulder. I sighed and said, "I made a friend and I lost that friend, but I know that his spirit will still be with us." Jerry shakes his head and tells me something I've always needed to hear. "Remember, Tom, we never get over a loss, but we move forward and evolve from it."
"Since when did you become so wise?" I asked as my heart became heavy and tears streamed down. Jerry shrugs his shoulders and walks away.
Claire looks at me from a corner of the tent. She walks up to me and says, "I thought I was never going to see you again." I whipped the tears from her face as they rolled down and said, "I was never going to stop fighting for you, Claire. You were in my mind every step of the way. I will always love you, Claire, whether it's 6ft under or across the globe." More tears streamed down her face as she kissed me. "I will always love you too, Tom."
"Tom!" Yelled Jerry rushing in. "The war isn't over yet!" Our faces widened with fear. "What?!" I said as I heard gunshots outside. I ran outside, gun in hand, and looked around only to see people lighting fireworks. Jerry came up to me and started laughing, "haha, got you!" luckley it was a little bit dark, so no one could see my face turn bright red. "Don't ever do that again." I snapped back at him. "Okay, I'm sorry." I put my gun to my side, put my arm around Claire and we all watched the fireworks go up in the air, and for the ones whom we lost will be remembered for their great sacrifice. The war was finally over in the year 1945, and the next morning over 10,000 planes flew down and we were finally home free.
