Star Light, Star Bright

A/N: This poem was submitted in 2021 in the Young Georgia Author's Competition. I won for our grade. I don't know how far I went. I do know I didn't win, of course, but I am still so proud of this poem! I hope this serves as an inspiration to put aside your thoughts, wants and opinions and just be kind to others and to understand where people come from and to help them where they hurt. Please enjoy! 🌟🌟🌟

Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have this wish I wish tonight.

I wish for love, for joy.
I wish for peace.
I wish to be satisfied
With all I need.

Please, little star,
Make my wish come true.
Please, little star,
I'm counting on you.

You, little star,
In the vast upside down ocean.
You, little star,
Trapped in eternal circular motion.

Little star up above
Who, unlike me,
Never got to choose
Who they get to be.

Thank you, little star,
For shining so brightly,
Even if you'd rather be doing
Something else entirely.

Star light, star bright,
In the infinite blue disc,
I've changed my mind.
Can I change my wish?

I can choose in life,
While you cannot,
So I have a new wish.
I hope you like it a lot.

I wish to live
What you never could,
To be what you'd like
To do what you would.

Star light, star bright,
Little star in the sky,
You deserve the chance
To give life a try.

We can't trade places,
That I know.
But tell me about yourself
And we'll see how this goes.

Star light, star bright,
This is my plea.
Star light, star bright,
Live through me.
