Only Time Will Tell

Author's Note: The inspiration for this poem comes from a book. Sorta. The book has poetry about feelings and I just wanna write some. This is about a guy I pass by when going to my seat in a class. He's said something to me in a way suggesting he has feelings for me. I don't know, though. This is my speculation. Disclaimer: I don't have a crush on him.

When I pass by
Does my scent comfort you
Like how after-rain
Soothes my soul and erases my worries?

When I look at you
With my curious hazel eyes
Does it ever turn on a switch
Like basking in warm sunshine?

When you ask me any question
Because you know I'll know
Does my answering voice take you away
Like a favorite melody?

When I almost trip and fall
Into your table during a test
Do you envision in your mind
Catching me like a trapeze net, safe and secure?

When you tell me I'm smart
With the dorkiest grin akin to a poster on a wall
Do you mean it like that
Like I'm better than sliced bread?

When I literally giggle
My thanks to you like a little girl
Do you hear how much it means to me
And smile inwardly, claiming victory?

When I can't afford to look at you
Because I know I'll overthink your look
Do you feel wounded
Like a needle has pricked your soul?

When I make faces
Because I outwardly process everything
Do you look over and take joy
In such a small thing?

When we pass in the halls
And I am blissfully un-seeing
Do you see me
And cherish the moment?

If I were to ask you to your face
If these things were true
Would you gaslight me
Because it's easier and safer than the truth?

If I were to tell you
I'm so messed up and weighed down by baggage
Would you still ask me questions
With your heart-piercing gaze?

If I were to confess
There may be something there for us
Would you take my hand
And take that leap?
