Remus awoke the next morning and felt starved. Only then did he realise he hadn't eaten in two days, the day of the jump, then the full moon and then yesterday. He quickly got up and changed and went to breakfast. The hall was deserted apart from a couple ravenclaws and one teacher it was early morning so it didn't surprise Remus. He was soon joined by the one teacher which was McGonagall.
"How are you Remus?" She asked worry in her voice as she sat opposite him. "I'm ok, how are you?" He replied as if this was a normal casual conversation. "I'm ok myself, Remus, I'm going to write to your parents" she said. That made Remus drop the toast he was eating to his plate. "What?" He replied. "In the past two days you've nearly died twice, I feel it right your parents are alerted of this and have the option to pull you out of school" she told him. "But I can't Hogwarts is where I have to be, if I go who's to say what could happen to my friends it'll just grow the targets on there back" He spluttered. "That's why I'll also be writing to all there parents, it's a precaution, a choice, Remus I don't know what I'd- any of us would do if we lost one of you" she told him. Remus nodded and McGonagall left.
No. What had just come to his head. It was reckless. Irresponsible. Dangerous. But what if it could stop this. Stop this all the madness the pain. He would never have to endure anything like this again. Then he thought, thought of the person who would do this themselve, who would probably do it if told to, that person who Remus had to do this for, for Sirius. He left the hall and instead of going back to the dorms to spend his Sunday morning doing something normal like drinking tea, napping, reading, or just talking he went towards the forbidden forest. Towards hopefully Regulus.
He had his wand raised as he walked, he walked for half an hour and then heard a crack of a stick, he turned and there he was. "This I didn't expect" Regulus grinned mischievously. "What are you getting from this, he's your brother, and your parents were horrible people, they abused him, you must of known that, what if it was you, what if you were the one being hurt for just being you, he did nothing wrong, he saved himself, what's wrong with that?" Remus yelled this all.
"You will never know what it's like to be hated and then loved and then lose it all, as soon as he started screwing up I was the golden child, I became a death eater, I served well the noble house of black while Sirius dishonored it, and then my father was taken to Askaban and my mother became crueler and then she was shipped of to Askaban, and then what ever presence I had from my parents I had was gone and who was to blame, Sirius. They'll know of what I'm doing even as they descend into madness, they'll know I served them well" Regulus replied every word like venom coming from his mouth.
Remus laughed a bit it was all piecing together "You seek approval because you have a fault, your fault is that you aren't like them are you, this doesn't make you happy, it's just for them. Gaining and loosing love from your parents just brought that on to you, believe me I know all about it". "How would you know anything?" Regulus asked his voice had faltered it seemed like he could crack in seconds. "My parents loved me, and then I got bitten by Fenir and then my father became horrified by me, I don't even know if he would gladly call me his son, and so that's my fault and I'm a werewolf so I study, I keep my grades up I don't get distracted, I do it just so I don't disappoint him, but I don't care for it when I see others running around not a care in the world I want to be there but I can't be because me and you are the same we do it to not disappoint them, but here's the thing your way outs ahead of you, there gone Regulus, you'll never see them again" he said.
Regulus stood there it seemed like a eternity before he finally spoke. "Even if I did change now what would the Dark lord say, he knows of my plans to leave Sirius in pain, lots of pain" Regulus said. "Then one last time you do that, do it to me, it will hurt Sirius, but hurt me bad, enough for You know who to know your not changing" Remus replied. Regulus nodded. "I'm glad, it's ending like this, I hope you get out of the bad, good luck" Remus said. "Good luck to you to Remus" Regulus said and then he raised his wand and Remus closed his eyes.
Sirius awoke and after breakfast with James he sat back in the dorms, waiting. Finnaly he heard the door swing open and looked up, Peter and James had been playing chess and Lily sitting watching, they were all waiting for Remus to come back from wherever he had gone. Remus walked in beaming but that didn't seem to be noticed, it was the blood, down his head, out of his mouth and from cuts across his sliced sleeves and trousers. To add to this he was also remarkably pale but before any of them could say anything he spoke. "I did it, I stopped him".
"Who?" Lily squeaked out all of them felt stuck to where they were. "He's good, Regulus" Remus said, he felt like spinning but he went into a full on retelling of what had occured and then he told them about how the injuries were inflicted to help Regulus. One of them had been the crutiatus curse. "He's gone" Sirius said and Remus nodded and Sirius ran to Remus and hugged him. "Thank you".
