Avengers' POV

All the Avengers headed to the conference room at Fury's call. They went quickly because it looked urgent. They entered the room and found Fury at the end of the table with his back to them, accompanied by Agent Hill standing beside him facing the Avengers. They all sat down around the table where files and computers were laid out.

"You remember, 10 days ago, Agent Peyton and Agent Ivanov left on a mission," Director Fury began without turning around and with his voice low. The Avengers began to worry. "I received this morning in a package the flash drive with the data they recovered from their missions."

"Ah well, so they were successful? Everything went well? They're going to -" asked Thor.

"Did you get the message that they were leaving?" asked Nat, cutting Thor off.

"Yes, we got it. Agent Ivanov notified us of their departure and the agent on the ground when he took them to the airport." explained Fury.

"So what's the problem?" asked Clint. Fury turned around and the Avengers saw his grave expression.

"I received it three days ago. Their flight is only 11 hours and they should have arrived on Sunday." informed Fury.

"Have you tried to contact them?" asked Steve, concerned.

"We haven't received any response, we can't reach them," explained Maria.

"Have you tried to locate them?" asked Tony.

"We have no GPS signal from either Agent Peyton or Agent Ivanov." Maria continued

"Wait, you haven't heard from them in three days and you're only now calling us in?" exclaimed Tony.

"How do we know they didn't just go on a romantic vacation?" asked Bruce.

"Seriously Bruce?" exclaimed Clint.

"What? That's right! Didn't you think that maybe they wanted some privacy? Why worry like that? They're two responsible adults, they -"

"Agent Peyton is a HYDRA agent!" shouted Nat, cutting off Bruce's speech in the process. All attention then turned to her. "There's nothing between Agent Peyton and Y/n because he's a HYDRA agent and Y/n's mission was just to get close to him. I guess the mission they went on for a week was just a decoy and it was planned that they would not come back. You're not especially worried so I guess you made a plan with Y/n before she left. Isn't that right, Director?"

"Indeed Agent Romanoff." nodded Fury.

"Wait wait wait.... Agent Peyton is part of the Hydra organization?! And you asked Y/N to spy on him?!" gasped Tony.

"Tony...calm down. There must be an explanation behind this." Steve tried as best he could to calm Tony down, being annoyed himself

"You all knew there was something wrong with Agent Peyton, but what you didn't know is that he is indeed part of Hydra. Shortly after Y/n came into our walls, Agent Peyton made his presence felt within our walls and managed to get promoted. However, it was obvious that he was hiding something, he was very interested in Y/n's case and the base where we found her. After discovering Y/n's skills, I decided that we should keep them secret, not divulge them to anyone but people we trusted. On her first mission, I ordered Agent Ivanov to observe, which she did very well."

"You didn't want her to observe Nat and me in action but to watch out for Agent Peyton?" interjected Clint.

"That's right. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell her that directly, otherwise Agent Peyton would have suspected something. Luckily, Agent Ivanov used her powers to help you and thus was able to accomplish her basic mission."
