Chapter Sixteen- Zuleika
Darkness surrounded me. Everything around me was a dark. A long path with long display cases with doughnuts in them. The doughnuts were all chocolate based with pink frosting on them. The only light source was the heat lamps on top of every display case, which shined a dim glow along the path. The path was a pattern of black and white tiles which seemed to go on forever. I walked along the path ad tugged against the hem of my green blazer. I've been in this labyrinth for an extremely long time and there was no sign of me leaving anytime soon. I held my necklace in my hand as it gleamed at me. My soul gem wasn't really shiny anymore; it was dimmer than yesterday. There was a small pool of darkness growing at the bottom and I knew I had to do something about it fast. I pulled a scythe out of my soul gem and continued on walking down the path. Suddenly, the display cases started rumbling and jumping. The glass on the cases broke as the doughnuts sprouted wings and fangs. They all flew above me in a circular motion. I didn't know whether if I should eat them or fight them. They dived down at me as I swung my scythe at them. I knocked a few of them out of the air and continued running down the hallway that never seemed to end.
When I got to the end of the hallway there was a large metal door blocking my path. I ran my fingers against the cold metal and punched the door off of its hinges. Behind me, I noticed more doughnut familiars heading my way. I shot lasers at each one of them, watching them fall to the floor and spilling jelly. I turned around a peered into the new room that I had opened. It was carnival themed with rides and children running around. I walked around and got a view what I was dealing with. There was a man with no eyes handing out cotton candy to children with also no eyes. However when the children ran away, they looked like they knew where they were going. I took a glance at the bald man in his red and white carnie shirt. Although he had no eyes, when he looked at me it felt like he was staring into my soul. I walked away from him in a quicker pace than I did before. This place was certainly very creepy; however I walked around and tried not to draw attention to myself. The sky was painted a creepy black color with red dots which simulated stars. I continued my journey to a rollercoaster which was labeled "Ava". I jumped over the velvet rope and took my seat at the front of the black and red stripped cart. The rollercoaster immediately started and took me into a long dark tunnel. The tunnel lit up with torches around me as I looked ahead to notice the tracks disappearing. My eyes widened as my cart fell off the tracks to a giant hole in the ground. The hole seemed to have no end as well not to mention it was dark the whole time. I could feel my stomach rising from the long drop. Suddenly, I felt the cart realign with tracks at the bottom of the hole and push me into another long tunnel. There was a large bright light at the end of the tunnel and when the cart made it to the end of the tunnel, my eyes burned at the sight of all the light. When my eyes adjusted, there was the witch. I pulled myself out of the cart and made my way to the center of the room.
She was a marionette style witch, with hands controlling her strings. She was hiding out in a carnival based room, controlling the tilt-a-whirl for her familiars to ride. The witch looked like one of the familiars I had seen earlier. She looked like one of the children with no eyes. Then, I saw a staff smack one of the strings controlling the witch. I looked around to see Zuleika standing behind me.
Zuleika: "You're late; I thought I would have to handle this witch all on my own"
The witch turned around and glared at both of us. Zuleika's staff appeared back in her hands, as she opened a secret compartment in it and pulled out a black bracelet. She handed me the bracelet and I studied it in my hand.
Ethan: "What's this?"
Zuleika: "Just put it on, it will come in handy"
I slipped the bracelet on and the witch flew over here from the large hands controlling her moving her around the carnival. I knew she was going to attack, which was why I was prepared. I swung my scythe and Zuleika planted her staff firmly into the ground. I had no idea on how Zuleika fought, so I didn't know if she could be an asset in this battle or not. On top of her staff was an hourglass which seemed to be running out of sand at the top of the chamber. I narrowed my eyes at the hourglass and when it ran out of sand, everything in the room stopped.
