I have recently fallen in love with One Republic, and this song is now one of my favourites. It's sort of for Sami, and how he's always there for Raafi. Other than that, i just like the song :D Enjoy!

Chapter 14 - Claire

“Don’t look at me like that!” Sami said sheepishly, cowering away from Raafi’s heavy glare.

“You knew everything, and you couldn’t bother to tell me? You couldn’t bother to tell me that my marriage has been arranged?” Raafi shrieked at his friend, wanting to say a lot more but barely controlling himself.

After Raafi had accepted condolences for Adnan’s death from King Hamza, he and the King had continued their journeys in different directions. King Hamza thankfully had not picked up on Raafi’s rage and had headed off with his men with a cheerful expression on his face, no doubt on his way home to fuel his daughter’s ‘daydreams’.

“I was forbidden from telling you by the King himself,” Sami replied, attempting to explain himself.

“But I thought you were my friend, Sami! You could have told me and the King would have never found out! Do you not trust me?” Raafi’s anger was escalating with every word he spoke.

“Of course I trust you.” Sami’s voice was a mere whisper.

“I do not even know who this Amira is,” Raafi grumbled. He was desperately trying to put to use those years of training that forced him to stabilize his anger.

Seeing a chance to redeem himself, even in the slightest, Sami eagerly offered what meager knowledge he had of the girl. “I saw her many years ago. She could not have been more than four years of age. But even at such a young age, everyone could see that she would one day blossom into a beautiful woman. From what I remember, she has very dark hair, almost black, that seems to glitter in the sunlight. Her eyes are a deep brown and I remember that those eyes were her most remarkable feature. It was as if she had seen and felt more than any other little girl her age.”

Raafi nodded, processing this information. It made him uneasy to think that this dark haired, dark eyed girl whom he had never met would be his wife one day. It made Raafi even more uneasy to hear Amira’s father telling him that Amira daydreamed about him. With a wild multitude of thoughts circling in his head, he rode on in silence, Sami following him, his faithful servant.

It had been the longest journey Raafi had been on. He found that he was thankful for Sami’s company. How could he have remained sane all alone in the middle of this vast, endless desert? Whenever sand blew into his eyes and made them water, it was comforting to see Sami’s blurry, tall figure next to him. The horses were getting tired, weighed down by not only their riders but the large amount of supplies that those riders had lugged along with them. Precious water was scarce and whenever they did find a small pool of water, the horses lapped at them with a frightening intensity to fulfill their thirst. After several days of sandstorms and countless nights void of sleep, Raafi was ecstatic to see the Khandar stretching magnificently before them for miles and miles. The glorious sight of the water shimmering under the light of the merciless sun was one they had been waiting to see for a long time.

Sami dropped down without warning and draped a cloth over his head for shade.

“What are you doing?” Raafi asked incredulously. “We’re almost there. We can’t stop now!”

“What do you mean, ‘we’re almost there’? We still have to cross a sea, Raafi! The last leg of a journey is always the hardest, so for God’s sake, please let me rest.”
