"Hey, so the kids just got on the bus. I have a few errands to run, but I'll be back in time to go with you." I peeked into our room. Asher was standing in front of the mirror fixing his tie. "You're hot."
"I know." He turned around and winked at me. "Another kiss?"
"Of course." I practically jumped in his arms. "You know I love you so, so much, right?"
"Yeah, but I love you even more than that." He pulled me in for one of the best kisses I've had all week. "Promise you'll be back before lunch?"
"I won't be gone long enough to miss lunch with you, baby."
The doorbell rang suddenly, causing me to break away from Asher. His eyebrows scrunched up in confusion. Who was at the door this early in the morning? Even I know what time to knock on someone's door and it won't be a disturbance. I offered to go downstairs and check to see who it was. He promised to join me.
When I was only a few feet from the front door, I caught sight of who was outside. My blood ran cold and I stopped walking. The house was silent as I debated on whether I should open the door or not. I hadn't seen her in so long. Not after what happened between her and Asher. The last thing I need is her coming back into his life to ask for a second chance. I can't allow that to happen.
"What's up?" Asher asked as he joined me. "Why haven't you answered the door?"
"...It's Jenni," I muttered.
"Jenni?" Asher looked at the door. "How is she even here?"
"Well...are you going to answer it? I'm not. You know we don't really like each other."
"What makes you think we're cool again? I broke up with her, because I couldn't tell the truth about liking you and she cheated on me. How is that any better?"
"If you don't answer it, I will and she won't be happy about it."
Asher sighed and nodded. I knew it. He doesn't want to speak to her. It's fine. I'll make sure she knows what's up. There's no way she's going to come here and think she'll get to speak to Asher just because it's something urgent. What could be urgent this time? She isn't working for Cameron anymore. If she's working for someone else, then Asher doesn't need to be involved. We're already in enough danger with him being out and about as a CEO. I don't have time for her trying to throw us back into the mix.
"Fine." I crossed my arms. "If she plans on staying to speak to you, I'm only leaving to visit a friend and pick up a few things. If she's still here when I get back, she and I are going to exchange a few words."
"You got it, my love." Asher kissed my cheek.
I huffed and continued to the front door. Jenni rang the doorbell again. I told her I was coming and opened the door. I tried not to look like I'd known it was her.
"Oh, my gosh! Jenni, what are you doing here?" I exclaimed. "...Been a while."
"I could say the same." She smiled. "How have you been?"
"Fine. You?"
"Pretty good. I'm sorry for intruding so early in the morning. Is Asher home? I need to speak to him."
"Why?" I crossed my arms and felt my smile disappear. "He hasn't spoken to you since he left for France."
"Well, you can't expect every friendship to be perfect, right?"
I rolled my eyes and looked back at Asher. He was gone. Maybe he went back upstairs to grab something else. If he didn't do that now, we both would forget it. I try not to blame my amnesia for even the smallest things, but I know for a fact that I won't ever be right in the head.
