Suddenly, I was being pulled away from Alastor. He let out a low growl. My eyes were squeezed shut as my savior pushed me out of harm's way. I opened them to see Alastor glaring at him. I was going to be indebted to whoever had just saved me. They deserve the best for the rest of their life.
"Who the heck are you?" Alastor crossed his arms.
"That won't matter once you're dead. Leave her office or you're gonna have more than a bruised ego."
Uh...My mind reeled as I began racking my brain for anyone I knew with a foreign accent. Asher's accent is barely there unless he's frustrated or really excited. It wouldn't make sense for him to be here anyway. I began thinking of male clients I knew were foreigners. I couldn't think of any who would be here at this time.
"What--"
"Go now! No one wants you here."
Right. I don't even know how he got this job. Kendra must know how he is. If this mystery person says anything to her...
I wasn't expecting him to go without a fight. The guy kept me shielded from him as he left my office. He sent me a glare before slamming my door. I jumped and nearly fell backwards. The man turned around to catch me.
"Are you alright? Did he hurt you?"
"...No, I'm fine," I muttered.
I looked up at him, not prepared for the biggest shock of my life. No way!
"Derek?"
He deserves the worst for the rest of his life!
We stared at each other for longer than necessary. I just couldn't believe he was here! Of all the people to label as 'VIP', she chooses the one guy I truly want to murder. He isn't a bad person, but my head is wanting me to believe he is. Especially since he and Sha'Kera are close friends. Too close to say he wouldn't try to ruin her relationship with Hayden.
"Hi." He helped me regain my balance. "I wasn't expecting to see you here."
"Neither was I." I looked around my office. "You know Kendra?"
"Yeah, she's a good friend of my manager. They thought it would be ideal to sign with her and have the best consultant."
"I wouldn't say I'm the best..."
"Ah, everyone thinks you are."
I wanted to get this over with already. Why did I have to be his consultant? Then again, what if it was someone else? I don't think they would have barged into my office like Derek did and saved me. I'm grateful for that, but I don't think I can thank him. I want to, but I can't.
"I was told I need to sign some papers, then Kendra wants to see me. I don't want to stick around and be in your way."
"You're not in my way."
"That's what they all say." Derek put a hand on my shoulder. "Look, I know you and I have our differences, but could we put them aside for a few minutes? I don't want you to feel like you're being forced to be nice to me today."
"It's not like that..." I mumbled.
"It's definitely like that."
"Derek..."
"I'm not everyone's favorite, Lexi. I know for a fact that you hate my guts. Maybe you can pretend to like me for a few minutes. Everything will go by quicker."
I looked at his hand on my shoulder. He's making me want to break his hands for touching me. I guess I can be civilized for a couple of minutes.
"Fine." I pushed his hand off of my shoulder. "Just don't touch me."
